What do you need to make one street legal in Cali? I'm thinking a windshield of some sort, seat belts, original gas tank, side mirrors. Are doors needed at all if you are buckled in? I could do tube doors or 1/2 doors. I don't have a tow rig and trailer and like being able to drive to/from the trails.

Hope to have it out for shake down in mid Jan. Comp season starts Feb. 25 in Vegas. Lessons learned, don't ever build anything from scratch. Untill you have been there you can't even imagine how many parts there are in vehicle.
P/s you hack and chop XJ guys aint realy that dumb after all.

just curious but why cut 75% of your xj up just to leave a crappy firewall and floor? why not tube it all and add some sheetmetal that looks/works better? dont take it as a putdown just curious
