Glen Helen grand prix

Robert, let me know if you decide to hit the Rocksports Challenge.

If you're coming, I'll adjust our staff and gear plan to help accommodate you and make the logistics of that trip easier for us both.

Glad to see you finished!

Congrats Cal, Richard, Robert, and Charles! Wish I could've been there, but was stuck at work.

We have a full front view up till our stop I think. I REALLY wish a Daym gopro would just record till its TOLD to stop. but they just stop randomly evidently.

I will see if Charles will get it up on youtube in the next day or two...

Besides it being illegal with coil overs / second springs per corner?

It was nice and powerful till it overheated and melted the fan into the radiator....

Interesting. EVO calls it a "spring over shock" set up and not a coilover. I don't understand the difference but I am not too bright. Apparently they convinced the race officials that it's OK.

No they did not. We just were waiting till they finished and then if needed protest (red card) then.

I could run a ultra4 unlimited if I wanted. Just at the end everyone would protest.

They can call it anything they want.

This is plain and easy to read though..

Secondary suspension is not permitted, unless factory-equipped (secondary suspension is considered to be any means or method of supporting any portion of a vehicle's weight and/or affecting the primary spring-rate at any time). As such, springs of all types, airbags, air-shocks and air/nitrogen-charged hydraulic bump stops are not permitted.

Edit... And they used a dual rate slider and 2 springs per side... so...

i thought currie ran some sort of dual rate coil spring setup on their stock class rig for KOH. is that a recent rule change to fix that loophole?

That rule has been there since day one. They ran a progressive spring.. only one coil per corner...

ah ok. ****climber was wrong again lol

Hey dipshit.

I never said they ran that car in KOH.

An LJ was built that uses a currie 4" TJ coil with an eibach coil on top of it with a custom coil mount that allows for dual rate use.

It was built, not by currie, but by another builder, with currie springs as the foundation. To prove a point. It was never a race rig.

The savvy/currie LJ just uses off the shelf currie 4" springs. Which are progressive.

So it's illegal because of the dual-rate spring setup? That makes sense to me. I wonder why they haven't figured that out.

a true dual rate setup can be beneficial. But to make it a single rate coil over spring I would say has no benefit at all.

Robert and Charles

Glad you guys got back into it and finished the race.

. Apparently they convinced the race officials that it's OK.

The problem is the two coils supported by the slider and shock body. Mel was willing to go home that night, weld the coils together and remove the slider if it made him legal.

The race officials discussed it with other competitors in the class, and it was decided that being the night before the race, we would all agree to let them run it this one time - but if they show up to another event with dual coils and a slider, they will be disqualified.

I personally don't see that setup working with a single coil, but am looking forward to seeing what he does. Mel definitely thought outside of the box and brought something new to the table - but had one too many toes over the line. The next race will be interesting!

Well here are a few of the Issues we had...
