Getting Rear coils in December.

I know what you mean..... my jeep has been a gradual buildup, and I know alot of people with alot better equiped rigs than I have that can't wheel worth a damn. Alot of them have better equipped rigs than I have, and still park on the bypasses and watch me and some of my other buddies try obstacles.

My recently acquired XJ is four linked in the rear but JR is right about the rear leafs. A decent pair of shackles (revolvers or similar) and some softer springs work VERY well. Ride quality is good and plenty of flexablility, also cheaper and easy to modify.

There are a fair amount of guys who run long arm on the front of there TJ's and run leafs in the rear, for good reason (stability). It is a good setup and not bad at all if your running desert, just need the right spring, shackle, and shock combo.

This is not meant to be an insult but if you ask questions, don't discount experience just because it isn't what you want to hear.

Flex?

Short arms and leaf springs, HD engineering shackle boxes with longer shackles!

Ah...to be young and have an unlimited amount of money with which to provide the foundation for such an attitude......
Hey, Im broke. I never said I have an unlimited amount of money. Im just saying. If I wanted a TJ, I would of bought aa TJ instead of an XJ or trade my XJ in. :banghead:

Advice from an old man. Learn how to wheel what you have first. Your Jeep will tell you what you need to upgrade.
Well, on from my experience on the terrain I usually travel on, leaves don´t cut it. Like right now. I´m in Mexico, the town im in, not many paved roads. Leaves bounce too much. Too many ruts and gaps and leaves just dont cut it. Unlike coilovers which would absorb every tiny bump individually. And even with tires aired down here, it´s still not enough.

Im not insulted. But I just couldn´t explain it. You´d have to come down to Guadalajara for a few weeks and drive and wheel around here. I need coilovers. lol.

I think that maybe we're discounting the "coolness" factor that Sparty is including in his vision (see the pics of the Monte Carlo and Sivlerado that have been posted lately).
Hey, it´s not about "coolness." It´s about comfort. And i´m not worrried about flex either. I dont rock crawl much.

i would agree with the ridea factor as my buddies coiled xj rides like a stock wj :D
Exactly my point. Nothing can compair hitting ruts and bumps at speeds. Yes, leaves have more flex than coilovers, but my XJ isn´t flexed like JR´s that often. I´m more of a greenlander and enjoy traveling places through back country roads instead of the interstate. Leaves just are not comfortable enough. Am I right Flores?

I'll bet my FSJ is every bit as comfy as a stock WJ or your friend's 4 coil XJ...and I have long, soft, leaf springs on all 4 corners. :eeks1:

At the end of the day, Sparty is the one shelling out his coin for his Heep. The debate between leaf springs and coils will go on just like autos vs. manuals. We all have our experiences and our own opinions based on them.

True. And it´s my heep. I´m takin it to the grave with me. lol. I am never getting rid of it. Ever. I swore. Haha. Yeah, I´ll buy more eventually and maby wreck them, but not this one. This one gets pampered with healthy doses of trail mud and new parts every chance I get. I also didn´t mean to turn this into a debate.

doc evil and i were chatting the other day abouut coils and this is one thing to be considered, they flex well so in off camber situations you will find your self with more body roll, i have observed this with my buddies 4 coil xj also, MY recommendation is using some sort or torsion anti sway system like an anti rock . just my 2 cents

I was thinking about that too last night on a typical day dream right before bed. lol. I´ll see what I come up with.

If I wanted a TJ, I think I would have one. lol

How about a ZJ? It would save you a lot of time AND money! I guess I just never really understand why someone would go through that much trouble to re-invent the wheel. I could see it if you ACTUALLY raced Jeepspeed or ACTUALLY wheeled your Jeep...

What's harsh about it? It just goes back to the "coolness" factor I mentioned earlier. I mean Flores, would you waste the time and money putting a 427 out of a LeMans Vette into a Chevette? Sure, you'd have a unique and "cool" car, but, what's the point?
