Gears growling 8.25

Sneaky

NAXJA Forum User
How are you guys able to stand all that noise in your Jeep after doing 4.56 gears? The noise is so bad I'm seriously thinking of selling the Jeep now. I can't drive it on the road without it giving me a headache. The growling is just too much. It pisses me off I just did gears and an ARB in this axle.... What a waste of money.

All new bearings... I hear the the wine from the gears it is high pitched and the growling is unbearable. The Jeep is no fun to drive anymore and doesn't drive as nice as it did.

The pattern is very good on this gear set
If you call g2 they will tell you they don't have the machine to cut Chrysler gears so they cut them like a Dana set and they run loud
So far it is only 4.56 and 4.88 doing this
Nitro claims their gears are cut better and will run quieter
So if you have 4.56 or 4.88 in a Chrysler 8.25 tell us what gears you are running and how they sound

G2 had told me that all 4.56 and 4.88 are like that due to how they are made.

I understand that it may be drive line issues but since I put 2 degree shims in the pinion angle is practically perfect. The growling was tolerable but now it's resonating into my steering wheel and seat.

This POS is going to go up on Craigslist here real soon.

G2 = shit gears I guess. This just seems crazy to me that they would openly admit that their gear sets in 456 and 488 for the C. 8.25 DON'T WORK PERFECT....... But buy them anyways!!!!!

And they are in Compton, CA. Julio, go karate punch them in the throat.

There is no way that's gears vibrating your steering wheel. Figure out what's making the noise and vibration. I'd put the axles on jack stands and let it run. Get under and listen.

...........I didn't see that part....

Start by pulling driveshafts one at a time, and drive it. Start diagnosing which end the vibes are coming from.......

I have been running G2 4.56 gears, and matching bearing sets, in my DD XJ (8.25 rear, D30 front) for the past 8000 miles and they are quiet.
Whoever set your gears screwed them up and now is lying to you.

Setting up gears is not a back art but tdoes require someone who is knowledgeable, patient and has the proper tooling. Sounds like the installer was lacking some or all of these traits...but now can add lying to the list. Sales people too have been known to lie...often.
So many excuses for bungled job.
So many good reasons to learn how to do your own work.
