Gear setup, anyone?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to decide what to do with my XJ. I've thought about everything from selling it to leaving it alone and going bigger badder better faster, etc.
Called the local gear shop up in Albany, they want $800 / side to do bearings & gears.
Anyone know how to set up gears? I'd like to go 4.10 or 4.56 but don't have the $$ for the shop.

gears out the door are never cheap. I have a local guy off harbor blvd in west sac set up mine for 150/rear and 200/front. I had to provide all parts.

i asked him about break in period and he laughed at me, said he used to do burnouts to make sure the gears were set properly. Broke in mine on the rubicon and they've been quite and nice.

that seems like a pretty good deal, I was expecting to have to pay about that much if I didnt do it myself

I might go that route, actually, and just buy them. I've already got a Dana 30 sitting around, so I might gear it. Then again, by the time I buy gears & pay labor (or figure out how to do it myself) I coulda bought one geared when I came across it.

Check with Pete’s Gears in Hayward 510-537-9446. He’s not cheap but his work is excellent
