I already have a rear Isuzu 44 with disks and 5.13 gears and a trutrac LSD and install kit. 6lug. I have decided not to go this route. So this bundle is for sale
I also have a wagoner front 44 I was going to use shafts and brakes from to make my hp44 match 6 lug. I'm not going that route as stated earlier. So that is up for sale as well.
I already have a disk 8.8 installed in the rig now with 4.10s and a factory LSD. I have decided to stick with this axle and beef it up as its already installed. With the ultimate 88 it will be the perfect width and I believe stronger than a 44 for my current 35s and future 37s.
I have deffinately decided on 5.13s as the gearing I want. I already have 5.13 gears and an install kit for the hp44. It is also 5 on 5.5 so I will be able to drill the rear disks to match and the ultimate 88 kit is drilled 5 on 5.5 as well.
I was all for the rear 44 until I watched Alan blow a shaft right in front of me really not doing much. I know he is on larger tires and maybe not quite the right line but I deffinately would like to err on the side of caution as far as strength is concerned. I know the ultimate 8.8 will be stronger than a 44.
Define way stronger. In stock form it is debatable. If you buy a 35 spline axle kit for less than the ultimate 8.8 axle kit then you are better of with the 44. And it will bolt right in. Since he already has the axle installed in his rig then upgrading the existing axle males sense.
bigger pinion, bigger ring gear, more splines, bigger tubes, and as a bonus disc brakes already done.
I would even go as far as to not upgrade to the c clip elim and just run it as is and leave it alone. for fun grab spare shafts, they are dirt cheap. save the 600$ for something else, like beefing up the front.
actually, if youre only gonna run 4.10s, you can get semi floating rear 60s all day long on CL for nothing. I saw one that was around 63" wms to wms and 5 on 5.5 for like under 200$ recently. way stronger than all of the above, still SF, but bigger.
I still don't see where it is "way stronger." Don't forget about the thinner axle tubes that will tear under stress and a center section that likes to point upwards if not fully welded to the tubes. Oh, and there is the 2 hours of grinding off the factory brackets and the extra weight. But since I don't want to clutter up someone's thread on buying gears......
