Gas mileage improvements?

Since installing my overhead console and being able to watch the mpg better I can say driving habbits are the #1 killer of gas miliage. After paying better attention I gained 2mpg.

With that being said I have also been thinking about a home made cold air intake and more so the injector upgrade. My injectors are the originals with just under 100K on so I really want to think I would notice a gain there.

And head winds also make it worse. I installed a scanguageII in mine and when I hit a head wind 3-4 MPG's are gone instantly. :D But like others have said, Laying off the skinny pedal helps a ton!

^^^ what he said

so you want better mileage :firedevil ok lets get started definalty seafoam great product and it works i run half throught the throttle body and the other half through a tank of gas gotta change you oil after it. SYNTHETICS ARE YOUR FRIEND stuff runs cooler and lasts longer and MPG's are nice too. DO a full tune up cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air filter, pcv valve the accel kit comes complete and its cheaper then going to meet your local autozone idiot (and it comes with hot sh!t red plug wires). and be kind to the skinny pedal it can be your buddy or your worst enemy( i can't talk im a throttle junky), hope this helps and welcome to NAXJA

here the acell tune up kit

you can install a vaccum guage. it lets you know how much load your putting on the engine. the closer the needle points to 0 the more gas is being used. well at least thats what ive heard. then again im only 19 so what do i know.

I just bought my xj a couple weeks ago and ran it through the gauntlet (a 2000 mile road trip in 4 days) and I was getting around 350 miles per tank and I was stopping before it got to the E line, and I'm bone stock, I'm excited to see if I can make it better with the mods listed above. My only problem is I have the distributor-less ignition system so I'm not sure how I can upgrade everything. Any tips?

That's probably about as good as you're going to get. The most I ever got was 380 miles from a tankful and I had just 2.5 gallons left when I refilled it, so that was 380/17.5 or 21.5mpg (26 miles per Imperial gallon).

"per tank" is pretty variable... for instance I get 19.4 gallons into the tank if it literally ran out of fuel driving on a flat level surface. Before I replaced the gas tank, I got about 18 into it before it ran out.

Best I ever got was 23.13mpg - '91 MJ @ ~220k miles, 4.0/AW4/3.55 gears/225 tires, speedo/odo spot-on, doing 55-65mph along the entire length of the i-84 corridor, using regular summer gas with 1500lbs of cargo in the back. Fuel fill-up was measured by filling the tank completely, driving, refilling, and using the refill amount and mileage from odometer (verified by GPS.)

My full-sized Grand Wagoneer gets 22-24 after a few bolt-ons.
Bolt in diesel?

uumm I just bought a $1100 Toyota.

And I get 35 MPG....

Paid for itself in 6 months. (I drive alot)

Not sure what that has to do with anything, but thats nice. :dunno:

find you a cheap vacumm gauge and install it and try to drive with the highest vacumm on the gauge you can that will get you the best miliage you can get

I have a '92 with 33's running 3.55 gears with Auto and 4.0. It has 156K on it and I have put the last 30K on it. It has always gotten about 10.5mpg, uphill, downhill, wheeling, crusing, loaded or empty; about 150 miles/tank! I love my DD, but don't want to re-gear until I can pull the axles and swap them. Under the hood it's clean as can be and regular tune ups/updates. Wondering if changing the speedo gear would help any....it affects the CPU too, doesn't it? Thanks!

it dosent have any affect on a 92 .I have a 92 lardo 4.0 L 5 speed stock hight with 235/70 r15 with 3:07 gears have changed to Ford 4 hole injectors installed a new cat with 2.5 in let and out let and 2.5 to muffler and out to tail pipe .Muffler is a Raptor from Orellys cat was from a kock off flowmaster cant remember the brand borad the TB to 62 mm new sencors and tune up .I get around 12 to 14 around town and around 19 on hwy dependes on if pushing wind. I had a vac guage set up on mine for a while and learned to drive with it to keep the higest vac at all times.

I have thought about going to 3:55 to see if it would take a little load off the engine and get the RPM up at where the power is . I think it would help some as load on an engine takes more fuel to a point so dose over rev the engine its a compermise to get every thing right or the best you can get it. For you driving habits and the part of the contry you live in .
