Gas milage changed bigtime

i noticed the same thing...
but i realised that the way there is uphill and the way back is downhill...
which makes a 50 mile difference per tank...
the 76 gas doesn't seem to vary in quality mych here...IMHO
i hope you find the culprit rich...

It's not a matter of a 'culprit' I don't even think that cutting gas is against the law, just curious what they cut it with. What I do think is that it should be a law that when a station is selling 'cut' gas they should be REQUIRED by law to post that on the pumps. This is all based on the assumption that they are cutting it at all. I can think of no other way for a whole bunch of other people to experience the same problem at the same time.

My Jeep has been off the road, but last week I noticed in my Spec V that I was not getting enought milage on the tank. But I am thinking that it has to do with an exhaust leak.

Ok, so it's not me. I've posted this a couple times around the board. 150 to a tank just flat out sucks. Tire pressure is good at around 30psi cold.

I know the engine is gonna have to work harder when it's cold and all but gee wiz, how hard is that thing workin?

I did notice the last time around it got slightly better to 100 to half a tank, rather than the 75-80 to the half a tank it used to get. And it's cause the weather was a bit warmer.

roughly 9MPG, and about 20 miles a day on the Jeep, translates into more trips to the gas station, at $1.80 a gallon....ouch!

Noticed in my 88 the gas mileage dropped from around 15 to 8/9. It´s been cold (and a fair amount of 4X operation), but doubt thats all of the problem. I do a lot of short trips and spend a lot of time in traffic, but my driving distances and bills are fairly consistant. I noticed first in my monthly gas bill that something was wrong, then did a mileage check to confirm.

Did everyone that noticed a drop check their tire preasure after the cold weather hit?

BINGO.... that has made a difference for me in the past... as does the change in the fuels they produce for sale in the colder climates.. i belive they are reffered to as "oxygenated" (?).. i cant remember wat the diffeence is with it but it normally give lower performance and milage...

damn who dug up this thread??

I've noticed a drop from around 15-17 normally to a lot lower lately. One tank I saw 9, the next was 13. I'll check again today when I fill up. I'm 210 miles and about 1/8 tank.

Doesn't that figure. Gas milage goes down, and now the news says that the prices this summer should be 25 cents over last summer.

this may be a little off topic but do xjs have 16 gallon tanks? mine always takes exactly 32 bucks at fill up. just bought a yj yesterday and it took 40 bucks. are they any different?

The first year or so had either a 13.5 or a 20 gallon tank, but around 90-91 they dropped the 13.5-gal option.

Odds are your rig has a 20-gallon tank. Was it bone dry when you filled? If not, keep in mind that the "low fuel" light isn't dead-on accurate.

If so, check for dents.

20.2 gallon tank, my check fuel light comes on when its still got 6 gallons left. My needle showed at empty last night. I filled up and it took 14.6 gallons. Speaking of which, my mileage was 15, which considering that I did a lot of freeway driving on that tank, is still low.

I learned early that my Gas light goes on when I have used 13 gallons. I run it another 60 to 100 miles and get gas.

when the light comes on i usually just trust it to school and back. 70 miles, i dont trust it past that. the yj is gone now btw, broke down and we just took it back
