fun at the garden....

Nice thread Grimm. I spoke my mind after Tommy started crap last night and Prater came and deleted EVERY ONE OF MY POSTS. I wasn't out of line in all (only one) and I voiced these concerns as well but it seems someone doesn't want to make the rock garden mad???

Here is my problem with Tommy's driving. The way it was explained to me, we would be "guided" through the facility, then have BBQ, then be allowed to try alternate lines. That's NOT what happened. The 3rd obstacle while Matty was stuck Tommy comes romping through (right where people are sitting/standing) and up the crazy side to get stuck and be in the way of Matty's recovery. Tommy has a BAD ASS rig and the normal lines are boring for him, I am sure of it, but everyone else was following the rules as given to us. The rules also applied to drinking evidently. The 3 guys standing at little con (or whatever its called) were talking trash all night with comments like "if you break you become an obstacle" but didn't like that comment when Tommy got stuck. My 2 cents AGAIN....unless Prater deletes it again
x2 god damnit.... imgoin to bed before i really get pissed off again. i wish i wouldnt have spent the weekend at the casino with my mom this weekend... i would have been all over this yeasterday. RAWR thats all i have to say, you MFers pissed some people the F off.

Damn, sounds like I would have been pissed the F off myself had I gone...especially because I probably live farther from the rock garden than anyone else who went. F it, apparently I'm not missing much! Thanks for the heads up Grimm!

I was standing there with my dad my cuz and 3 kids. I agree it was very rude, (to say it in a nice way). Although I didnt know that all that other stuff happened. I think you guys are right to be upset.

HAHA Glad to hear it was you. I accused Tommy of this last night and he said "I politely asked them to move"....of course after Captain Cleanup (isle 3) came through no proof of that......:flamemad:

Well, I hope "Rock Gard" is right and change is coming. Sometimes its when you tax your limits, you find your weakness. And I think the large group coupled with different attitudes (add alcohol) was a learning experience. Unfortunately, I am not sure how much damage has already been done. I was down to do it again after dinner but now, I am thinking next fundraiser might have to be somewhere else and I am not sure I want to go back. Although Tommy and I PM'd eachother last night and his problem was the frustration of the shit talking on his rig in front of his wife and kid. I understand that and it's probably not a big deal unless your friends are drinking and everything seems big then.

Hey guys, keep in mind as what was said by RockGard... learning experience. There are only a couple of actual employees. Most of the orange shirts where volunteers. He is taking this in stride and making changes so for the sake of everyones ulcers. Drop it allready. Give the park a chance to redeem. I missed all the drama, and now I'm wishing I missed all the e-drama. I for one am gonna go back to the rock garden and become a member. and instead I will offer my help and support to the RockGarden so that I may have a local wheeling spot that lets me jet out for an afternoon wheeling trip to get a fix.
Instead of condemning a very young park for trying to learn how to operate, I will provide input and help to make it a better place.
I respect the attitude that the Rock Garden is taking. Not taking sides but rather taking the constructive criticism and trying to evolve the park to its fullest potential. Making changes when needed, where needed.
If he finds corona bottles littering the grounds then he can take up beef with that volunteer who was simply tossing there trash out on the ground. Which is poor ethics. pack it in, pack it out applies to your buddys property to. Both sides... get over it...

I hear you Ryan The problem is Skwerly was there when the guy in the white cj (or whatever it is) came flying over and said "You XJ fucks get out of here" e-drama or not that is a large group and you can't minimize that.:dunno:

Not to keep this thread going, because I do think they understand and I received a very nice e-mail from the owner. But I would like to say that the way our group conducted themselves even after some of the late night B.S made me personally very proud to belong to our Chapter. For me when stuff happens like that I have a tendency in the heat of the moment to resolve it the wrong way, especially when a you involve someones girl Friend or wife, So.Cal is a great professional group! and It Rock's! Thanks for the great time.

Well, after reading skwerly's post, I asked myself where Mike was, now I know. And I also know I won't be going back there.

I don't need to spend $40 to go wheel on some rocks in a fenced in area. I shared my thoughts with a few members before hand, not my cup of tea. The only reason I looked forward to it was to hang out with friends. Other than that, he can keep his rocks.

Sounds a lot like a certain incident with "The Few" @holes at truckhaven. We all know how I feel about them.

i was thinking that the whole time. "these guys should join The Few"

Christ almighty, at first I was bummed that I missed this deal Saturday but now I'm glad I did. Because I would have been "that guy" that throws the beer bottle at the guy who just tossed it on the ground.

It's good they wheel on private property. it's that type of mentality that gets our open land closed. Funny, just what we went to that event to help fight.

I agree with Grimm and the others.. I had a good time on Saturday, even though I was a passenger.. But the Unprofessionalism of the "Staff" in the late evening was uncalled for. Off Roaders as a Whole have to realize that We have a target on us at all times.. What if one of the spectators was in fact a member of the Sierra Club and witnessed the antics? Then what? You have to get a grasp on what TREAD LIGHTLY is.. Im not going to sit here and bash Tommy and his ZJ... DID that already on saturday.. YES I am one of the crap talkers.. Its a nice rig but should have been left at home. When the guy driving has no regard for the spectators standing around and changes lines and does not care who is standing in his path.. That is WRONG! I am one that will not be attending any functions at the Rock Garden.. But would like to thank those who put this event on..

Just a FYI, The owner of the Rock-Garden responded to a email I had sent him. He was very apologetic and I think he will really investigate what happened. He made no excuses about what he was told. No doubt just two people were the culprits it the whole fiasco. Like I told him, If I would have been hit by one of those guys who had no regard to anyone's safety, I would be changing his sign to Rich's Rock-Garden!

My two cents, for what it is worth.

As far as me being less than cordial.. That is untrue. I do my best to introduce myself to most anybody that I run into at the Garden. I introduced myself to so many people there I can even remember their names.

Secondly with regards to the group that I was leading in the beginning. About 6 rigs, and not having regard for them.. That is untrue as well. When we got to the shelves there was a white XJ that was stuck there for half an hour. Not sure who it was. I sat and watched for about 15 minutes as you tried to take this XJ up a line it was not equipped for. I have done that obstacle numerous times and knew what line he needed to take. Instead everybody down there opted to get the guy more bound up and block the trail for a greater length of time. I can get into more particulars but I will leave it at that. The attitude of the guys spotting this rig was very standoffish. We were just trying to help as we wheel there every other weekend.

Once the white XJ was extracted from the shelves “MATTYXJ” went threw and I even helped to stack rocks and the rim to get him out. It was finally my turn to lead the group of XJ’s threw the shelves. One of the guys spotting the white XJ comes up to me as I was leading the less built XJ on an easier line threw the shelves and says, “ohh following the stockers I see”…. That was some hospitality and respect right there. So yes I did turn passenger and rail the hell out of my rig. As far as disregard to spectators or children I apologize if you may have thought that. You may have failed to notice my rig was full of four kids. I would never put any spectators, let alone my kids in harms way. So that was a non issue… And yes I was following the stockers line as the rigs behind me were less equipped and could not make the same lines as my ZJ could. The attitude and crap talking from these guys started then. Not one word of negativity came out of my mouth even after this.

I will also address the comments down at the creek when MATTYXJ was stuck. I didn’t just drive up on the spectators sitting on the ledge. They were sitting there and I did ask them to move as I was going to drive up over the ledge. I didn’t feel as though my request was rude. I have done that obstacle 5 times and have only been stuck once. For some reason I shifted to the right and was stuck as well as broke. If I remember correctly I didn’t even get in the way of the Matt’s extraction, and he was pulled out of the back of the obstacle with no issues. As far as me cutting six other rigs on that obstacle I didn’t see one rig waiting to lineup and try. Everybody was just watching the extraction.

As far as the treading lightly comment, I have wheeled Moab, Fordyce, Rubicon, and several other trails. You will never see my rig off a marked trail, nor will any of the other rigs I wheel with. So you comment about our mentality is off , seeing as you have never wheeled with my group. Every rig I wheel with carry’s trash bags, and are constantly cleaning up trash on any trail we go to. The garden is the exception and we are limited to the front half of the property. The more trails we blaze the more obstacles you guys have to try. We are always looking for something new and challenging. And the comp buggies found it!!!!

These comments saying I had no regard for people’s safety are coming way out nowhere. I am over this drama and just want to leave my perspective on some of “FEW” topics being discussed here. You guys can bash me all you want. I wish no ill will on any of you guys and would still help you in a minute no matter what trail you were on or if you decide to go back to the Garden or not. I will be there will look forward to seeing you guys back. I personally never was belligerent nor did I bash any of your XJ’s. I get that enough when I take my ZJ out…

As I read about all the drama, over the weekend, the kind of words expressed by Clean-RC and FordGuy kept crossing my mind. I saw a lot that went wrong. The image of off-roaders compromised, trail etiquette that fell through the cracks, alcohol/testosterone getting in the way of a man's better judgment, the crossing of line in talking to one's woman, and last but not least, the bad example set in front of the kids, our future wheelers. How unfortunate.
