Full width HP44/9" swap

Got pretty bored with it, lost interest in Jeeping, so I chopped the top to get excited about it again. Probably the third best thing I've ever done.

Will update this thread with the cage build pics, would like to keep build in one thread.

Thanks!

Chopped it because of the reasons stated above. It was the next step.

I don't love my jeep as much as I love working on it and using it. If there is nothing to do I get bored with it.

I like my jeep, but I love to jeep.

Does that make any sense?

Understand completely, My jeep is my project and I always keep a list in tha back of my head of how I might make it better or things I will do differently on my next jeep.

Thanks for bringing this back I never saw it the first time and it is a great build thread.

Have been too busy enjoying it to get any good pictures of it. I still have a lot of work left on it, but have been taking advantage of the nice weather to have some fun with the top off.

It is completely different to drive. Can hear the engine much better. The body seems much stiffer.

Still need to address rear speakers, third brake light, tailgate, paint, and the tops. Also not content with the cage, going to do some more work on the back quarter.

The plan for the tube work was to have a halo that replaced the pinch seam to protect the doors from trees.

The majority of it is 1.5" .120 DOM. The bars running across the top at the B and C pillar are 1.5x3" .120 rectangle tubing. Went with larger cross bars for mounting speakers, lights, etc...

As of now the rear cradle is bolted in place to allow some movement. I was getting nervous with the front all being welded with no gaps for movement, so the movement is in the rear. It seems to be working well.

It is going to be getting a bikini top that covers all of the passengers, and a tonneau cover that covers the cargo area. I am also going to have a rear window made to match. With the tops on it will look somewhat like an H1.

Ya, I've had this idea in the past as well. I was happy when I saw your initial photo a couple weeks ago, because it was along the lines I had day dreamed about. I did a little damage to mine this weekend, just looking at ideas.

And I agree, it does look very nice.

so what do the angled bars running down in the back attach to? just the sheet metal or anything structural? im gonna steal your ideas for my junk but the tubework is going to be part of a tied in hybrid cage and im trying to find the best way to tie the rear in while keeping it as clean and out of the way as your setup

The rear cradle, the black piece my jack is mounted to, is held in place with about 20 bolts. It spreads out the load from the d pillar bars. You can see it in the last picture, it surrounds the top of the cargo area, is made out of bent flat stock and 2" square tubing.
