Front Coilover Mounting

It would be more difficult to adapt those into an XJ than to make your own

Not necesarily. If you have a tubing bender at your disposal then yes, its probably easier to make your own. However if you dont like the majority of us, its probably easier. i plan on buying the kit later next year when i convert the front of my xj to airshocks.

yes, necesarily. those shock towers will not work as a weld on option for the front of an xj. it would take way more work to make them usable than it would be to design and build your own like i did. no bender is required.

You don't need a tube bender to bend a shock hoop?

What exactly makes this kit not desireable? Is the bend radius of the hoop too large or something?

look under the hood, there's no room to go on top of the "frame rail". plus you'll have to plate it all anyways, much easier to make your own at that point than to try and adapt something not designed for our station wagons.

it's better on the joints if the mounts are directly on top of the axle.

What about all those guys that run trailing and leading arms?

And I should say I don't have coilovers, just race shocks. but I put the shock mounts there to get some more uptravel.

Ya thats now i have my fox 2.0s now just seems lime theres a better way to mount the coil overs i saw genrite is mounting theres on top of the knuckle on the axle wonder if any go fastguys run this set up?:geek:

IMHO, mount them where they fit and get you the travel numbers you need.

with coilovers, ALL the weight of the vehicle is on the shock mount, so having it behind the axle will transfer that weight to the joints. if you want premature wear, go ahead.

I'm well aware of how a coilover works. and I have read that many times. but is it really going to matter? if you are using quality joints, you aren't going to kill them instantly. ALL joints wear and need to be serviced at some point. if you are using a quailty 2.5" JJ or 1.25" rod end how much faster are you really going to wear them out?

do not agree.

so you'd rather put them where they don't fit just so they can be on top of the axle?

I mean if they work well right there and you get the numbers you want putting them there go ahead... but your jeep's not gonna fold like a taco if you don't.

they fit just fine. good luck fitting them back far enough to be behind the axle. i suppose you can have zero uptravel or remove your brake booster. or maybe run 12" of lift.
what do i know, my jeep spontaniously combusted from my inverted t steering. I shoulda called Blaine. :)

did you not read what I posted?

here, I will type this real slow so you can understand it

PUT THEM WHERE THEY FIT TO GET THE TRAVEL NUMBERS YOU NEED.

if that means they go on top of the axle, so be it.

says the guy who never had coilovers. stick to arguing about steering or your man crush.
