Friggen fuel pumps batman

Well my fuel pump just died today and left me stranded on i5 outside winters in a hundred degrees. All three kids and my wife and myself got to sit in the sun and bake for two hours. Quite humiliating. My wife doesn't really like my jeep anyway but her van had a flat.
Thought it was the CPS cause the harness was a bit melted so I got it towed to Colusa as they had a replacement at the vatozone there but it was a no go.

Pump cycles with the key in the on position but no pressure at the shrader valve. ****ing sucks. So now I'm sitting in round table waiting for yet another tow truck to head back the 85 miles to my house.

Rant ended.

So what's the work on fuel pumps. I changed mine before I put my tank skid on. That was only two years and maybe 7000 miles ago. What gives. I don't want this to happen again.

I have a factory spare I carry.
I literally jut went through this and ended up dropping the tank 3-4 times.
Did your new pump have that long filter on it that doesn't fit in the little regulator tank?

Mine turned out to be that thing was pinched and wouldn't let gas through. It would cycle.

Finally headed home. Two tow rides and eight hours later. Starting the two hour drive home. My jeep is deffinately going on a timeout when we get home.

Maybe. I'll have to dig into it this week.
What's everyone's opinion on cutting an axess panel for the fuel pump.
For me to drop the tank I have to pull the bumper, skid, and shackle relocators.

sorry man. Are you sure its the fuel pump? you are getting spark but low fuel pressure? Sorry to hear gordon.

Yeesh, what a nightmare. Start at the pump and work your way forward till you find pressure. See if you can pop a hose near the tank and have it pump into a bottle. If it does, the problem might be in the line. If it doesnt, time to drop the tank. Access hole would be pretty neat. With like a hinge and a latch just in case. Definitely saves time and hassle.

I don't even remember which is lame but I think it was either a carter or airtex. I'll know for sure when I pull it. I can't even remember where I bought it to take it back. I'll check it out tonight and see if I can get pressure at the tank. If not I'm going to start pulling out the carpet.

Is Bosch still the best to go with.

I got a bosch and I was cursing them up and down before I found the actual problem.
Make sure to get new filters for the tank too. I think I paid like $80 on ebay for the bosch unit.

Maybe an access panel is a good option since it's a trail rig. A nice latch and a little gasket like that weatherstripping from Home Depot would work

That's a good call.

Found this on another forum. Looks like a good plan to me. Will deffinately be going this route.

Hey Pat did you get the whole assembly or just a motor by itself? 80$ is cheap enough for a pump but I would deffinately pay more for a full assembly if I had the option. Can't find a Bosch complete assembly anywhere.

my tank and pump access is from the front, no need to drop the tank to pull the pump. Do the different year tanks interchange without too much work? Mine is returnless but modding to work with a return would be simple. Something to think about at least

Honestly, go with bosch or delphi. You should be able to go on napa/carquest/rockauto to see if there is a quality complete assy. If you get pump only, make sure to get a new fuel strainer. Otherwise, warranty is void. IIRC, the bosch/carquest pumps are lifetime warranty.
