Not happening........ when I was taking off the rear driveshaft, I discovered that the 92 XJ I picked up had a pretty serious rust problem I hadn't found. BIG honkin' hole over the cat and muffler.

So, I'm putting in new rod & main bearings, timing chain & sprockets, harmonic balancer, and so forth. And putting everything back in my 94, which is currently sitting on 4 jackstands without axles, engine, transfer case, and springs.

<grumble> Gotta learn to look MUCH harder.......

Why don't ya just patch it Jeff? Mine developed the same thing. I just cut out the offending area and welded in a piece from the roof. Hehe, ya know there's more than one reason to chop the top :D

So, you're going to use this as this year's excuse to skip NACFest?

Such a baby - just slap that stuff back in and head East - you've got two weeks!!!

(Sean's right. You should see the new pan sections CHW welded in to keep my '87 from becoming a Flintstone's mobile - and my other '87 and '92 got the same treatment over the CAT)

Just get things squared away by SEP.

Well, the 94 is running again. After pulling both axles, springs, tcase, trans, and engine last Sunday & Monday, discovering the 92 wasn't sound, and putting everything back on the 94. Finished last night at 11:20 PM.

Can't make NACFest unfortunately........I go back on call immediately following (for the last time!) so I can't risk NOT being back in IL.

Now there are patches in the driver's forward, passenger forward, and passenger rear footwells. As well as a fresh bottom end in the engine.

Just on general principles, I put a new clutch assembly in. The old one has over 70,000 miles on it, and I didn't feel like risking a clutch replacement soon after having everything out. The old clutch barely had visible wear, and the flywheel (replaced at the last clutch job) still had most of the original maching marks in it, except for 1/4-3/8" around the edge of the clutch disk.
