Fordyce trip 8/5-7

Somehow that is not surprising.

"Ma'am, may i borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo."

the deadliest animal on the African continent is the Water Buffalo, and running in close second is the Hippo. Both like it wet and muddy, and the Hippo will make some good noise if you're into that...

So what is Bigger the Water Buffalo or the Hippo?

And is the Hippo as ugly as the Water Buffalo?

Nothing like a good ol' muddin' session to relieve some stress. :)

You might want to try it out in the Midwest then, mud is pretty scarce in these parts. That or wait till "Winter" for the rain to start falling again. :)

Personal preference I guess. Hippos are uglier than water buffalo but that big ass mouth makes up for it. It's a wash I think.

Is this more hardcore than the Rubicon/Hell Hole, etc? I think I could handle it. I love how easy it is to climb stuff now with the dual lockers. Before the Rubicon trip and now this Fordyce trip, I have never had dual lockers. It makes things so easy to the point of almost boredom. I still do enjoy the wheeling and the scenery. The Pres in the club I went with came 20 feet from a bear when he lost his degree shim & lower leaf on his spring pack of his yj. He walked the trail and found it about a mile or so from where we were and locked eyes with a bear. The area was very scenic, I still don't know why this area is called "Hell Hole", it is too nice to be called that. Was there a massacre or something there. I know you are doing the Fordyce trail, but was wondering if anyone was up to running it 2 weeks before, to get a little practice in before the official day. I know that others in the group have been getting their rigs together to the point that they might be able to do a run like this before the official Fordyce run. Who can/want do this run? By doing it on this day, we would get to use the trail before the big Sierra Trek caravan goes through the trail and makes it too easy. You know many people in the group are not that hardcore and need to stack rocks so their open diff'd rigs can get through. Looking back, I had fun, but wished I would have ran the Swamp Lake trail with you guys. The Hell Hole trail had a couple intersting spots, but was otherwise pretty mild. I need more hardcore stuff now that I have dual lockers and am set up. have a xj dana 44 as well and love the thing. Would it have killed Jeep to put this in all their jeeps? You really don't know what you are getting from a boneyard unless you open up the cover and look it over. The thing might not have any gear oil in there for all you know. Great find and a unbelievable price. Did you just happen on it when looking around the yard? Where you looking for a xj dana 44? I see them once in awhile up here in Sac. My bro got 1 for $300, I saw another 1 at that yard and posted it here, and a fellow NAXJA member got it for $250. We got to snag those things up when we see them. I wish you the best with the axle, it sounds like it might needs some new bearings, but it could be so many things.

I think I have a copyright on this David. I didn't see a direct quote so I think you are plagerizing me. Wow, so young and eager I was just a year ago. :laugh3:

Did I actually write all of this in 1 post, it seems like a few posts? Then again I tend to repeat alot. :laugh3:

Too funny!

Oh, and to get this thread back on topic. Sorry, I think I'm going to have to miss this run. Hope you guys have fun. :)

Sorry, but If water buffalo are hairy, that isn't going to work for me. Big hairy things scare me. Definately the hippo just on the hair factor.

Ok, back on track for the second topic too. :sunshine:

Well, I tried out jug fishing last night after work and it is a pain in the ass. BTW, I didn't run into any water buffalo or hippopotamus on the Mississippi River. So what that means is that I'm cancelling my plans for the catfish tournament and am available for the Fordyce run. The problem is that my rig isn't anywhere near done. But I'd still like to see the scenic trails in California. Could I ride with one of you guys so that when my rig is ready (its green, by the way) I'll know what I'm in for? Thanks guys, NAXJA is the best!

You can run shotgun with me, it should be fun, we have alot to talk about. When are you flying in to Sacramento? Do you need a place to stay too? :laugh3:

Seriously, besides staying over at my place for awhile (my wife and little dog might not like it), I'd take you on Fordyce or the Rubicon. You just would then owe me a wheeling trip when I come back to Illinois to visit. It looks like you live close to St. Louis, I see that it is pretty hilly over there, should be fun.

Who said anything about flying?

That would save you a 3-4 day road trip and about 2K miles. Get here anyway you can I guess, get here soon though summer is almost over.

Do you have the special camping axle yet Marc? You can't run these tough California trails without one.

Sure you can, you can wheel with a dana 30/35 if you feel lucky and watch it. Plus Mark said that his rig wasn't going to be ready to wheel anyways. Just so happens I have that camper special dana 44 under my rig, I think we are good to go.

FYI: I made a big deal about the "Camper Special" because I didn't have the radius arms and cast wedges to worry about and thought about going with front leafs, but changed my mind and went with a stock 4 link using a RE kit.

Amen on your sig Bryan, why go big if you don't wheel big???
