thinking of bigger meats on the d30?

I found this on the pirate board. It has a lot of good views, and experiences with how the d30 holds up. I know someone asked about this not too long ago, and so did I. I'm pretty sure SeanP is a naxja mamber as well....just an observation.:) So I'll just pass this along for some good info on the topic. Pretty much after the 2nd page it gets to typical pirate bashing though....the good info is on the first 2.

I have been on 38.5's for the last 6 months with no problems...

4.88 gears, welded spiders...

Matt

Might be the Warn's, CTM's, D44 outers, and hubs???

Matt, that setup wouldn't hold up on the trails out here in the west. This stuff all depends on the type of trails we each run and the areas we live in. A couple of years ago on a NAXJA Rubicon trip, one of the people showed up with 35's on a welded D30. He broke three front axle joints by the second morning, and I ended up straping him the rest of the trail in 2wd.

We won't even let anyone with welded D30 spider gears go on our runs........or with 38's either. :D :D

BTW, SeanP now has a D60 in the front. He broke one side and twisted splines on the other side of his 9" last Nov in Johnson Valley, so he's upgrading both the front and the rear. He is, however, missing BOTW2 this year because he spent so much now he can't afford to go! :)

Oh, now I see about the Warn's and CTM's. :)

Still pushing it with 38's and a welded or unwelded D30. But, if it's working.........

We wont be on best of the west two either.....sold the maroon xj and am inthe process fo building a new MJ....dana 44's four wheel discs HP 44 front, klunev, four link rear, radius arm front, 35 mtr'stube flatbed and exo....just got the stripped out cab and chassis sitting there now...alot of work to do!...all the parts have been gathered.....axle being narrowed...welder fired up....not enough hours in the day!

Oh yeah, I apologize for the grammar up in the title....tried to edit it, but I guess it didn't go through. Well.........I run a dana 30 on 33" AT's, 4.56, and haven't had a problem!

Brian, we'll miss you on BOTW2, only two weeks to go now. I sure want to do an MJ with a flat bed, but it won't be for awhile. I have the MJ now, but it's a nice truck and it would be a shame to cut it up. Since I rolled the XJ and went through a major project re-building it this winter, it's going to have to do me for awhile. The MJ will eventually get built, but I don't know when. I don't know what I'd do with both of them.

That is too funny. SeanP starts that thread out by sayin he can't EVER see runnin bigger than 36SX. Blam.... 6 months later he is pimpin 38.5's! Can't wait to see the remodel in action Sean.
