who has done it?

I know it can be done by putting the t-case in N.

any quirks that you've ran into?

it's my dd 99 with a bb.

I tow mine behind a 32' motorhome often. Tcase in neutral, trans in park. I have a light set that is 20 + feet long that is magnet mounted to the roof. I loose about 1/2-1 MPG sometimes towing it. That is my favorite way to explore with my wife. We set up a base camp at a cheap campground and go from there.
Also have been towing to SilverLake for 12 years.

Dan, I towed my old heep to the west coast, Moab, Ontario, Arkansas, Pennsylvania and most places in between with no problems. T-case neutral, trans in park, steering unlocked. Don't try to back up, ever.

is that a joke ^ i would say towing any distance use a tow bar for sure.

My guess is Yes, Pat ain't no dummy.............ok maybe a little! :D

just make sure that the case doesn't lock the driveshafts together in neutral. I heard that some of them did that.

I pulled the front axleshafts (had broken front shafts/hubs to swap in...like a free hub) when I flat towed to Tellico in 2001. But I had a locker in the front.

One way rental is over $500 and I'd have to drop the car 2 hrs away from my sis. My dad has a real nice tow bar from a car he had that was totaled (read free tow bar). thought about putting my 'hoe on a dolly but its too heavy. I don't want to pull anything on a trailer w/o a load leveling hitch 'cuz there's too many unknowns. I know he flat towed his YJ with no issues.

Getting the lil XJ set up to flat tow gives me options later if we go camping w/o the big Jeep.

Good thing I'm getting a sweet deal on the MH cuz its still costing me about a grand to go out and drive it home. T and her kids have never been to NYC so we're going to spend a day there too.
