Jeepspeed 1717, Rev 2.0

Here are a couple sneak peeks at our new build. We are taking everything that we learned from racing Cherokees in Class 6 and Jeepspeed and building it into the new car. Though we went 4 full seasons without a DNF and finished on the podium in season end points in every year, that car had several design flaws in its initial build that caused us a lot of grief as the class grew faster and ultimately resulted in the demise of the car. The old chassis moved and flexed so much that it was nearly impossible to get the suspension to do what we wanted it to do. Let's just say we are very excited to be developing a stable platform for our wicked new Bilsteins and Rubicon Express suspension. With any luck at all, we will have her at the Mint.

Most of the cage work is done. Fuel cell is in and plumbing is next. Some one-of-a-kind reinforcements to the front upper shock mounts and spring buckets are done. Now John is going crazy with the dimple dies and plates to tie the upper cage structure to the body. More pics soon.

Sweet! That front end work is what Derrick wants to do to the 7118 truck when he gets back from his army adventure.

After this race (i.e. when we aren't under a major time crunch) there will be more reinforcements on the drop brackets on the inside of the chassis. Even though we had the outer braces on the drop brackets on the old chassis, there were signs of lateral movement. And I think we are the first team to tie the upper fenders into the cage like that. That area moves A LOT. Glad you like it!

Are you sure you guys are gonna make the mint? This years Mint? lol

It will be close. Some welds will still be hot. Talked to Eric last night and he said he's bringing a big box of parts that we still need to attach. The car should be out in Barstow today getting a quick test before it heads to Vegas.

Front hanger area for the rear spring. Pre-race... (it is a Jeep - it leaks before it even runs)

We knew we wanted more bracing here eventually, but we thought for sure it would survive a race or two. Post race inspection we found that this area on both sides of the car moved around. You can't see it in photos, but running your hand over the area you can certainly feel the ripples. We have more work to do.
