Despite the mad Death Wobble and a couple of other issues I'm going to try and work out this evening, I finally got the lift on this weekend. Comments welcomed.

Before, with a fresh coat of wax and a good wash last week:

And after, with the lift:

Now off to fix this damn death wobble once and for all!

shiny!

perhaps it is the t-case drop that is actually the culprit of your death wobble.

i have a 97 with 3 inches and no death wobble at all.

i also do not have a dropped t-case.

anyhow, she looks nice!

just saying.

death wobble is generally a front suspension issue, not driveline.

Had it aligned yet? Ive got a 96 with 3" lift, 1" tc drop no sye and no vibes.alignment after lift is critical.
Looks good, when do the 31s go on?

Hell yeah man...looks great. I've got a '01 with 4.5" of lift, and everything else you see listed below..and I've not had any issues with the dreaded DW. Alignment is important, and also to make sure your tie rod, ends, and drag link are all in good working order, proper geometry, stuff like that. Good luck figuring it out...the XJ looks good man.

Thanks guys.....got the death wobble crap pretty much straightened out tonight (combination of the front axle being about 1" off, the toe being a mile off, and a new steering stabilizer). Tomorrow i'm going to take it to my alignment guy and have him look over the entire front end and get his opinion of what joints I should replace (I have $328 worth of ball joints sitting in the floor of my dads shop waiting to go on, if necessary. If not, i'm returning them). If I have to replace anything, I will, and then get an alignment. If not, i'll get the alignment either tomorrow or friday....all depends on when he gets his new alignment rack set up.

Just to clarify, the tcase drop has not been installed yet.

The 31's are going on just as soon as I get the money saved up for them, and buy that 5th rim that i've been trying to get for the last week.

One other thing I need to work on is the fact the right shackle is currently making contact with my exhaust tip...gonna have to do some creative hammering on the tip to make some clearence....but thats the least of my worries at the moment.

Future plans include lights, and if I can get a good price, i'd like to throw on a rack too (with more lights of course :D)

So fresh and so clean.

Seriously man, really nice, reminds me of mine when mine still had clearcoat on it that wasn't completley fubar.

Don't crash it this time though...

LOL yeah....believe it or not, the clearcoat is beginning to come up in some spots....most of them were in spots that were repainted by the body shop....not sure how I want to go about them....

And for the record, I didn't crash it either time.....I was the unfortunate victim of somebody elses careless mistake.....twice.

Longer LCA's took care of my DW. F'd up caster with the stock arms. Couldn't tell from photo if your's are stock.

They are the stock ones...and I had the Jeep aligned today at the shop, and the caster is back within spec. Perhaps i'll scan and post up a picture of the alignment report.

Nice.I happen to have a XJ just the same in looking to lift it.Been searching the web everywere.Yours is the first clean one with a lift without tires added, which gives me idears on what I need.If you don't mine sharing on the whos, whats and weres,I would be greatful.Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments. The specs are in my profile, with links to just about all of the stuff I have on it right now...but I just noticed a couple of them arent working....let me see if I can update that for you. For now, i'll just tell you. The lift kit is a RRO 3" BB, which consists of coil spacers, blocks for the rear axle, and rear shackles. For a cheap, 3" lift, that you don't plan on beating the tar out of (mine is my DD, and see's a lot of highway travel), you really can't go wrong with it. Yeah, blocks as a lift aren't exactly ideal, but for a mainly street driven, ocasionaly weekend wheeled rig, it will work.

The tricky thing is, when you get to 3"+ on lifts, you begin to have to replace other components. The higher up you go, the more certain you'll have to replace things (such as your trac bar, lower control arms...etc etc), but at 3", it's hard to say what you'll need. I would highly suggest you purchase an adjustable trac bar. I have a JKS adjustable trac bar and love it. The best price I found on it was through Jason at Jeepinoutfitters.com....he's a NAXJA sponsor, and offers a 5% discount on purchases through him. Shipping was prompt...the only thing that got me, and this was partly my fault, was he didn't bill my credit card untill almost a week after I had the trac bar in my hands. However, I would still recommend him to anybody (as he was recommended to me by a friend of mine). Send him an e-mail, he'll be more than happy to talk to you and offer his advice. We were sending e-mails back and forth at midnight one night....can you ask for better customer service?

You will also probably need a transfer case drop. If your angles are too far off after your lift, you'll get some driveline vibes and perhaps some u-joint noise...like i'm getting...not good for the drivetrain (my tcase drop kit is going in tomorrow). The one I got is made by BDS, and cost me right at $30 brand new.

For Shocks, I am running the BDS 5500 series, which cost me about just under $40 a piece if I remember correctly.

You will also need longer u-bolts for the rear axle. I dont recall the size I went with, but if I can dig up my receipt later, I believe it's on there.

I purchased the tcase drop, shocks, and ubolts at the same time, from a local 4 wheel drive shop (Tarheel Four Wheel Drive, in Charlotte). Got them all together for a very reasonable price. I would highly suggest you shop around at some of the 4 wheel drive shops in your area, in addition to comparing them on the internet.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me and i'll give you my e-mail address.

Lift looks good, and a nice clean XJ!! What did you use in the rear lift blocks and longer shackles?

Yup, blocks and longer Shackles. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Let's see...what does it need. Hmmm. Oh yeah, add mud. Add liberal quantities of mud.

Ah ha...yeah...with those tires??? I think not. Half the time I end up using full time in the rain....so I don't think i'd like to take them into the mud at this point.

As soon as I get the BFG's on, there will be mud shots :D

Hope your getting All terrains. With as much driving as you say you do, you wear down a set of Mud terrains in no time.
