I can tell you how the Monkees and Jimi can coexist in classic rock. Jimi OPENED for the Monkees on several occasions in 1967. Michael Nesmith of the Monkees was not a sham like the rest of the Monkees. He wrote and produced songs for many rock, folk and country artists throughout the 60's and through till today. He is sort of a lesser known Brian Wilson. Plus his mom invented White Out.

Fat Melinda rocks.

He also produced the cult classic Repo Man if I remeber right.

The reason he was absent fromall of the reunion crap was he moved on and had a life and career after the Monkees...

Splitting the difference between Death Metal and Bluegrass...

If I had to pick one tune to go away with, it' have to be Ted Nugent's 'Hibernation' off the Double Live Gonzo CD. The 9 minutes after the 5 minute intro is awesome 6 string electric guitar. Enough to live by :dunno:

Scottish Bagpipe tracs make me weep :dunno: Then I want to kill folks wit my dirk.

What it want let me pick them all?

Classic Rock,and of course..Bluegrass..., Scottish(Celtic),Bagpipes,

My $0.02...
Bagpipes!
More bagpipes!
Scottish rock with bagpipes! Wolfstone, Brother, Seven Nations, etc.
Rock: Rush (my favorite), Pink Floyd, Saga, Dire Straits, Jars of Clay.
Ambient: Delerium, Amethysium, Enigma, Dagda (they have bagpipes!)
Classical: Beethoven, Hovhaness, Bruckner, Vivaldi (yes, he did actually write something besides "Four Seasons")
Jazz: Bob James, Fourplay, Flim & the B.B.s, Rippingtons
Blues: Muddy Waters, BB King, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy
New Age: Enya, Clannad, George Winston (for those really mellow times!)
So, in a nut shell anything except rap, country (except Lyle Lovett) and bubble-gum Britney Spears drivel.

What is old rock? Jerry Lee Lewis or Stone Temple Pilots?

Are Dixie Chicks singing Country, are is it the music played by Jimmy Rogers (and recut by Merle Haggard).

I was once told that Disco was an "Alternative" to stoneage album rock ;), is that what you mean by Alternative (this was told while waiting in line to see Black Flag in the late 70's)?

T-Bent, you need to go out and find "The Howlin Wolf London Sessions" (something like that) from ~1970. Howlin Wolf jammin with Clapton on guitar, backed by Steve Winwood and Ron Woods and a few other appreciative guests. The LB Blues festival has Ray Charles, BB King, and a truly great lineup this year (look it up).

No Techno? Where's the love man?

well that has a time and a place, but my XJ usually plays Yes, The Who, ELP, Pink Floyd, and the like.

Ed, you thinking of "Little Red Rooster"? I think Duck Dunn was also on that track. That Is CLASSIC, They kept trying to get the old man to play an accoustic so that they could follow. :D
Sure that concert wasn't Black Sabbath you were at there Ed? LOL By the late '70s things WERE getting a little fuzzy. :greensmok
