Extending wheelbase on 79 CJ7

Im going to be trading my XJ for a 79 CJ7 to use as my trail rig. The rear end Im planning for will either be a 9" or D60. I already have the 9", but I could pick up a 60 pretty easily. I want to keep it spring under also. I plan on cutting a good amount and keeping the lift low. In the rear, should I use a longer leaf pack, (Waggy springs, yotas?) shackle reversal, any opinions would help. Front I would like to extend it a little also, but I will worry about that after I figure out my front axle and drivetrain choices..Thanks for any advice.

How much longer are you looking to extend it? If only an inch or 2 you could just build it into the spring perch when you swap axles. Same with the front. The common deal with 7's is to use stock YJ leafs (readily availible & common) & do the spring over front & rear. If you're wanting to extend the wheels base more than this than I'd start looking at links & coils...

Yeah, sorry, I didn't post how much I wanted to extend it. Right now, Im not 100% sure, but Ive been reading on Pirate alot recently and trying to decide what the best thing to do would be.

The other hot ticket is to use the waggy springs. I think they are the Rancho 44044. Or use stock Waggy front springs. They are offset and will extend the length of the wheelbase.

I hate to do this to you, but have you visited www.pirate4x4.com about this. Search first, then ask. I guarantee you that at least a dozen people on that board have done this to their CJ-7 or YJ

Sorry, missed that part!

There are a few guys on www.bulltear.com that might have some different insights for you. Good group of guys. Just be careful, after talking with them for a while, you'll want a 401 in your CJ.

Check them out.
