these pics are
inspiration for those who just bought a stock XJ
appreciation for those who share their knowledge with the rest of us
vindication for us junkyard warriors who shop for bargains and go our own route in building our jeeps....

Spring 2005 - bone stock except for 235/75/15 Aurora MT's

Spring 2007 - 31"MTR's on alum A/R rims (bought used - too good of a deal to pass up) already have 5 black A/R rims to mount the 33's when the 31's wear out. Rusty's 6.5" long arm system with HD track bar. still the bastard pack in the rear with a 3" block. RE SYE with spicer flange from 82 Merc Cougar XR7 to mate with the 95 Grand Cherokee driveshaft for the rear. running stock front shaft. Pro comp explorer long travel shocks. front brake hoses from 1990 Chev C1500 2WD pickup, rear brake hose is for a wrangler but need to do something about that - still a bit too short.

And, yes, I do use it :)

Still to come:
I have the 4.10 LSD disc brake explorer rear end - just need to either put 4.10s in a front D30 or get a better front axle. still deciding.
I have the taurus electric fan to go in
33" AT's, maybe 35" if I get a better front axle
Fender trimming - replace the flares
Bumper needs a stinger and lights
Fab up rear bumper and roof rack with ladder (already have the ladder from a junkyard van)
Fab up some sliders with 1" receivers facing sideways to mount steps for wife and kids for street use. steps will be easily removable for off road.
And straighten out the damn dust shields on the front axle!!! that scraping noise is driving me crazy!!!

A build on a budget.. I like.

Not a bad idea but I got a cheaper route for ya. Bolt just on the inside a horse stirrup. Can be pulled out of the Jeep when needed and pulled right back in before you close the door. Much cheaper then the cost of steal and alot less fabbin'

Hmm, that's not a bad idea either. I think you would need some grab handles like they use on semi trucks to grab hold of when you step in the stirrup. They might attract trees though...

If you want it to last, put a cage in it NOW! I have slowly built and wheeled mine for the past 5 or 6 years now and have cracks showing in the unibody. Get a cage now before its too late!

Looking good. Those LA's work better with the wheelbase/weight distribution of the cherokee it seems. They never wanted to flex for me - my rear end did all the work. Or maybe it was just my super rear leafs!

Oh, those dust shields aren't very useful. I seem to recall throwing the front ones on mine in the trash after a rock got jammed between the shield and the rotor. I've left them on my DD but I won't run them on my trail rig anymore.

Now just go get that 8.8 in. And were you planning to get a front locker if you're to regear the D30? The yukon setup kit should make that process go a lot easier too...

Got a better idea. Just stand behind wife and kids with an electric cattle prod .... bet they can make that jump into the jeep then ! ! !

I have been thinking of getting an ARb for the front, especially after last sunday - there was a big Chev with us that was locked front and rear. Majorly impressive. But I am worried about breaking axles with a locker.. I'm still weighing my options. I'm looking for a whole 4.10 cherokee axle and I know I'll find one eventually. I want to see how it goes with an open front and the 8.8 LSD first.

The kid has to grab ahold of the seat but doesn't have much issue getting in.

Just stand behind wife with an electric cattle prod

Thanks, that would be great. Here comes another night time road trip....

I was there Easter weekend and there were quite a few XJ's and even a grand cherokee. The tags on all the front diffs had been cleaned off - obviously someone was looking for something specific....apparently 3.55 was not what they were looking for.

So how's your MJ build going?

Hopefully I'll be starting my exo within the week. Okay, hopefully within the month. First I'm probably going to try to clean out all the stuff in my shop that I don't want to ever see again. Like the 4 sets of tires that don't fit any vehicle I own.

I'd like some street legal 33 AT's but if the deal is right I'll take pretty much any 33's. I'll get them mounted on the black rims (you remember those, eh?) and see if I like them - in terms of power loss and how much cutting I need to do. Let me know if you find some down there and also if you snag a 4.10 d30 and I can probably swing a trip down there next weekend.

I'm sending you a pm about something else

Struck out on the tires (you'd not want them, they were BAD) and there was no 4.10 axles in the boneyard. Actually, they were really lacking in cherokee stuff.

Looks like you gotta do a gear setup.
