E-code H4 headlight conversion with comparison pics Cheaper than Silverstars

Thanks!

I'm late to the party! I just ordered mine...
I read the whole epic thread, it's probably in there some where but does any one have a link to buy a pre made up grade harness that won't break the bank?

Many Thanks

Heres another one - its only $19. But from what Ive read its only like 14 gauge wire (still better then the 16-18 of the factory wire) , I have no personal experience with it. I made my own relay setup with 12 gauge.

uh i'm trying to find these housings with bulbs. Anyone have a link?

I hope this comment is not directed at me. If it is, you got a $0.06 savings over me and I got jipped? $0.06 is not something to even worry about, hell you can find that in the gutter along the street

Looks like somebody didn't pick up the sarcasm lol...

So what kind of housings do you need to get these HID setups into an XJ?
You just need some cheesy chinese housings from ebay, but then you have to get the projector, ballasts, bulbs, and ignitors. Fitting the projector into the housing is the hardest and most time consuming part.

And buying 3 pairs of headlights for less than the cost of a Junk Yard HID conversion would be for ONE vehicle. That's bang for the buck.
This is completely true. I agree 100%, that's why I have these headlights... But I'm also putting together a retro at the same time. I think these headlights are great, the only thing that aggravates me is when they ARE compared to HID's, saying they're brighter, better, blah blah.

But as XCM said, if you think you're gonna be blinding oncoming traffic with a good retro, you're huffing paint. :)

NOOOOOOO!!!!!
Big Off Road is just using this kit with a nice mark up:

Thanks for the heads up!
Have you ordered from Eauto?

Man, nice 200% mark up:shocked:
Normal retail mark up is 100% on wholesale. If this is what These guy's are doing, they are really sticking it in:shiver:

Yes, i ordered a kit from them but I am going a different route. I am building a fitchVA relay box, so I have the EAuto relay kit also.

i have ordered my eauto kit great customer service so far. i will be using them with the auto pal kit with 100w/55w bulbs which are not installed yet. im hoping for a big improvement over stock

Well, searching>you. Here is a complete kit already pieced together for under $300. Took about 27 seconds of ebay searching to find.
Still under $200...

As for comparing them to 100watt h4's, I call shennanigans. Have you ever seen some LS430 projectors with a 55watt kit in them? They blow away any halogen in terms of output consistency, output width, distance, AND lumens.

Honestly the pics don't look that much better than my $25 AutoPal E-code lights with 80/100 bulbs. Then again pictures can be deceiving, and side-by-side they might be a lot brighter and a better pattern than my setup. Some of those patterns look so wide as to be wasting a lot of light off to the sides.

I'm curious though, aren't you subject to vehicle inspections in MD. Do they say about your obviously non-DOT approved lights, or are you running these as secondary lights?

I'm very satisfied with the setup on my MJ. I don't see a need to pay $200-300 and invest a bunch of my time retrofitting something that's just a little better. Having surfed some other forums, it looks like retrofitting projectors is not a simple task and some folks have had rather poor results. I am still looking at options for my ZJ which has crappy headlights and doesn't have standard housings - maybe I'll investigate projectors for that.

We've veered off topic from the initial posting, which was comparing installing E-code lights to buying Silverstar bulbs. Having tried the silverstars (I wasn't impressed) and used the AutoPal housings - I strongly vote for the better beam pattern of the AutoPal housings. A harness upgrade and cheap higher wattage bulbs such as 55/100 also go a long way towards brightness.

Sorry, I am pestimistic by nature. That's the bad thing about internet, it doesn't convey the tone of a persons voice
Yea it happens to the best of us, no harm.

This is one of the reasons I love living in MD. One-time vehicle inspections. When you buy the car, you get it inspected, and that's it. No annual or every 2 years crap. Now granted if you have something that is clearly not legal, you'll get pulled over and handed a repair order. But this isn't something I would worry about.

So do these light up the road better/farther?

I drive a lot of long, empty, roads, and I need to see ahead for animals. I currently have the sealed beam silverstars and they have been phenominal. A buddy however has suggested I upgrade to H4/Euro housings.

Hey just came across my own post....thought I would update.

Just today a bulb finally died (I did the autopal housing / autopal H4 90w/100w, 8 gauge harness) I have been amazed really. One of the best mods I've done.

So bulbs lasted almost 2 full years! I was lucky to get 10-12 months with Silverstars. I will be reordering the same bulbs from the same seller on eBay

I just ordered the eAuto harness and got a "best offer" of $2 off the E-codes... but I have a question. I want to upgrade to 55/100 white bulbs but there was no option for that during checkout. I just went ahead and paid then sent a message and copied it to an email as well asking him to upgrade me and send a payment request.

Those that already have these and the upgraded bulbs, how did you go about it? Does he bill you separately? I didn't really think about it until I bid on it and it's not spelled out in the listing or checkout.

Read the listing entirely.
Add $2 if you want these headlights with City Lights (bulbs included).

You can upgrade H4 bulbs to following:
Ultra Blue 60/55W Add $4.00
Ultra Blue 100/55W Add $6.00
Ultra Blue 100/90W Add $8.00
WHITE 100/55W Add $4.00
WHITE 100/90W Add $6.00

All you had to do was just ADD the extra $ in. Paypal him the extra $ that you didn't include the 1st time and I'm sure he'll put the bulbs in when she ships.

I assumed that would be how I'd do it, but PayPal "express" didn't allow me any way to change the total. I guess I'll just see what he says. I'm no stranger to eBay so I was just surprised it wasn't more clear to me. Maybe I just need more coffee...

He's a great guy to deal with, very fast on most message responses. I tried to score an older set without the bulb shields on the inside, but he said they changed to design a while ago so no chance.

I paid him the $4 upgrade charge separately and he emailed me confirming he'd upgrade me, so all is well. You're right about him being attentive.

Maybe I'm sleeping at the wheel but I'd swear I had no option of updating payment amount... Maybe another PayPal/eBay change for the worse? I'm tellin' you they're killin' me nowadays.:twak:
