Well the difference is if you run the entrance or not. I've seen XJ's on 31's with no rock rails make it through the trail with no scratches. A lot depends on your spotter (and how many rocks you stack :D).
In general everything hard has a bypass with exception of one ledge. And there if you're open, you either get very good iwth the skinny pedal and the right line (it's doable) or take a strap.

Oh yeah, also after all the rains I think that Odessa has more harder sections that are required (as in no bypasses) then Doran. There is a spot which will want to take your rocker panel and also that canyon that is farily washed out on one side and it will want to pitch you into the wall.

When I posted my first reply I didn't see the poll as it looks like the software posted the thread while you were still finalizing the poll.
Anyways, no armor? forget the entrance, especially on open diffs with 3.55's. You will definately want to take a bypass there. Btw, are you going on your own or with someone? Cause the open diffs will definately make things interesting in a few spots.

Im not too proud to take the bypass. So entrance bypass it is.

I definately recommend going with someone since you're open open with 3.55's. If you were to run it by yourself I'd run it from Odessa to Doran so that you go down the ledge that you'd have trouble with. Then before you reach the entrance to Doran you'd make a right and go on top of the ridge and then come down left towards the road or right to the campground (you can enter the Calico campground from the back).

How's this look?

Don't forget this little bit of body damage. And Rabbit took the same line as Mike.

Some Guy's will do anything ;) to not have to get the jack out from under the seat.

The line straddles the gap, hops the rocks with the gap underneath, and then it's left into the drivers side wall (usually with a rash on the drivers side rear flair).

Was Odessa cleaned out from the rain (as good at the Last Chance photos)?

As far as can these trails be done open/open ... take Mule up and Odessa down, first, then Doran up with the bypass of the lower entry (the photo). If it's all still good, change direction and do it again (up Odessa and down Doran).

It's always a good idea to take a friend, as two tire failures will quickly make a rough day last all night (unless you have a friend to borrow and ferry the spares).

I just ran them on Saturday. Of course, I did not even try the entrance to Doran. I did slide off and into a rock and damaged my rear quarter panel a little, but I chose a "harder" line. You can definitely run them. Don't go alone, take your time, and choose a good line.

I am running 3.5" of lift, open diffs, and some armor.

Here's link to some pics:

Did you end up finshing up that line? Was that the line that got you some damage?

That wasn't where I started, but ended up. Yes the front end got a little right there and on the way out with a strap. In conclusion the way it was requires full width axles and 37's for a XJ without major onramp construction.

Everyone should have rock rails.......that is a basic necessity.

When you run trails with open diffs, please unstack all of the rocks that you have to use, on any trail that you run. In fact, unstack more than what you use to account for the others who didn't unstack their rocks.

I'm getting older, and it's hard work unstacking nearly every trail that I run. :D

I ran Doran (bypassing the entrance) with my 3", 31's, and open/open. I got good use out of my rails...real good use ;)

That ledge that has no bypass isn't that big a deal, just don't slide off the rocks and knock your bead off.

(Body damage there was pre-existing, I didn't get any damage to spots you can see easily!)

So in essence you want us to unstack the rocks that you've placed? :D
All joking aside, that is a good point. If any rocks are moved onto the trail they should be removed after the passage through the area that they were placed on and preferably into the spot that they were moved from.
