Doors will only lock if you unlock first….

Guys I’ve searched and searched to try and not ask something repetitive but I can’t seem to find this issue addressed even though I’m sure it has been addressed by some with all the door/window switch issues they have…

I can’t just directly lock the XJ, from the fob of my remote start or from the driver or passenger switch. If I quickly unlock & lock in one motion it will lock every time from the driver or passenger door.

Unlocking from the doors or fob is fine btw.

Anyone have any ideas, I’d appreciate it?

What year is it? Im guessing its a later year like a 99-01 just by the description of your problem. Those late model switch boxes in the armrests (driver and passenger but not the rears) wont go the distance without cleaning and re-lubrication. I have two '01s and they've both needed it at about 145k miles. Give it a try, its not hard, just takes time due to getting access. Remove door panel, disconnect harness, remove the black plastic box, look for the tabs and carefully pop it open....slowly. Watch where everything is placed inside, orientation is important. Clean off the old junk grease well. Make sure the contacts look good and clean before applying some dielectric grease. Carefully reassemble the box, then everything else. Ive done four of the boxes now with successful results. I dont think its the grease as much as the contacts just getting dirty. Every instance for me, I found the grease at the contact area to be dark and dirty. The problem never came back, and that was a long time ago.
