Do I intimidate you all?

Don't come to Utah then! Seriously, our teachers put up with more sh!t from the parents and local religion and can't teach what is important. And they only get half the pay with twice the class size! Been a major issue here for many years. Kinda funny since BYU puts out more education majors than any other university in the nation.

Rant over. Good luck in finding your niche!
True but it is refreshing not to have my 6 YO come home telling me how they had to do a report on Al Gores movie.

I'm actually glad that the schools are the way they are here. If I was in any other part of the world my kids would be in private schools.

Next year I'll teach 6th grade and there are 2 teachers that I'll be working with that actually do journaling fairly routinely. They tell the students they need write to God. Our principals know this and I've told them that I can't knowingly have my students in class doing that. Things might get interesting then. Apparently no one has had the nerve to have that discussion with them. Good thing I've got all summer to figure out a way to talk to them without being intimidating.

Obviously, public schools are a joke (stress-wise) compared to what I've known and Heather says I am mellower now than she's ever known me to be in 5 years.

Come on over to the Chicago Public School District. Arne Duncan will hook you right on up!! I have no doubt the juvenile facility you worked for is a joke (stress-wise) compared to CPSD.

:D

Now YOU'RE jumping to conclusions and misconceptions. This isn't an entire Colorado thing, just a small mountain community thing. I can guarantee there are other areas in the state where you'd probably fit right in. Mountain folk are odd and there ain't no changin' them. Your naive a$$ might be best to speak to others in the state in your profession and get a feel for what's happening outside of Woodland Park and that school district.

Knot snapped. Quitcherwhining.

Well, a small community thing anyway... The Mountains have little to do with it except agavate it by starving their brains for air :D

Seriously though River..., each School District has different values based on the community it serves. It does not appear you are in conflict with those, but that you have a personel issue on your hands. You are an outsider from the community. Who knows, maybe someones Cousin was looking to get that job. At any rate... If you want to "Fit in" you should be doing exactly opposite of what you are doing now. Relax, smile a bit more for no reason, and mingle and make friends. If you play it all butt hurt, they will only see that you are retreating within yourself and treat you accordingly.

Just my 2c and I wish you a better review next time!

See I think some people move to the mountains to get away from others like Social Services or schools telling them how to raise their children.

And I'm sorry...I could never play it like I'm happy when I'm not. I don't need more friends if they are of that quality. I'll just settle in and do what I'm decent at in this school for another 2 years and finish grad school and then figure out my next move. At least it'll have plenty of comedic value.

P.S. Did I mention that school is out for summer? Gotta go in tomorrow and sing Kumbaya for a couple of hours and then I'm free. Anyone want to fish tomorrow? Or the next day? Or the day after that? Or the day after that?

Well, some do.
Others just want a more hippy way of life.
Still others just want to be left alone...
The largest problem with people moving to smallville is that they want what they left in the big city; which makes no sense to me at all

I understand about the style of play issue. I was just telling you what works from the perspective of walking the other path and stumbling often :D

Happy Fishing! :wave1:
