Disconnect to solid axle seal #'s

Here is mine - I used National Seal 471763 and it worked fine. I have notes here that I could also use NAPA 11340 or National 471354.

But I did use the 471763 to install a 1990 non-disco long axle into an 87 disco. The 1990 was the bigger ujoint axle as it was abs model - I don't know if this matters or not....

Well seal number 11776 ended up working for me. I sanded down the outside of the seal very slightly and it fit nice and snug. The outer portion of the seal was painted so I sanded it off and hammered it in place with a socket. I started putting everything back together, tightend up my ARB line and figured I would try the ARB before I tightend everything down. It was leaking so bad the compressor wouldn't keep up! I am pretty sure it is the seals on the bearing so now I need some more seals. I also took out my ball joints tonight to install new ones sometime this weekend. My lower ball joints were trashed! It is a never ending battle!!:wierd:

I know what you are saying! How can something so simple be such a project. A nice digital caliper would really help!

I am going through this right now, too. My digital caliper says the tube ID is 1.974in. I am installing the AlloyUSA solid shafts in my 88 with a D30. The diff-side seal in the Yukon gear kit was an OD of 2.040in. Way too big. They overnighted me another one that is OD of 1.983 and it fit well, but the ID was too big for the axles. I just ordered a few different size seals (overnighted them from www.ebatmus.com) and I will post which one fits for everyones' benefit hopfully this weekend. My money is on the 1.188IDX1.983ODX.250 seal CR1176 or the 1.218IDX1.983ODX.406 National 203025 (close on the ID, but still smaller than the 1.250in shafts).

Cheers,

I found a cr seal that worked for me on a 1988 disco d30 with alloy usa non disco swap, its in my glove box,i'll post up

i just bought a couple spares for the inner shaft, one each for both outers and use a posilok for the cad i got for 15$, all under 100$ and i can disengage my pass shaft in 4. and i try hard to take it easy. and ive never snapped a shaft

sorry it was a national/federal mogul seal #471763, perfecto fit,

Look at that, my thread comes back to life! What are the dimensions of that 471763 seal?
funny how that happens! 1.125x2.0x0.25"

So here are all the seals I know of with the addition of another seal that has worked for quite a few people.

What I have tried that didn't work
473228 2.506 OD "way to big"
405765 no info "could fit with some grinding"
11899 2.128 OD "to big"
11878 2.066 OD "to big"
11343 2.004 OD "to big"
11771 2.000 OD "to big"

What I know of so far that I have not tried

11776 or 473426 1.987 OD "possibly the only one that might fit" 1.187 ID "ended up working!
471747 1.987 OD also "might also fit. 1.125 ID"
11585 1.879 OD "no one has tried this but I might"

Here is what worked for me and others .

11776 1.987 OD 1.187 ID "this is what worked for me"
471763 2.00 OD 1.1252 ID "this has worked for quite a few but was to big for my axle"

Just wanted to add an update.

I used a Timken 473426, which is the same thing as the NAPA 11776 seal. The ID of the seal was a perfect fit, but the OD was a little to big. My tube ID measured 1.972 and the seal OD measured 1.989. I had to take a few thousandths off the seal, but got it to fit perfectly.

I'm getting ready to go through this mess, 90 disco housing and Longfield shafts

I suppose the Longfields are going to be machined and be close to what a later model shaft O.D. would be, lets hope!

Great info in this thread!

Just to clarify, you guys are putting the new passenger side seal right inside the axle tube from the pumpkin, correct? I think I'm doing this on Saturday...

hi, i have to do the same thing. Ive got an 1988 diff on my xj 2000. so the seal goes in the pumpkin? like the other side (driver side). thank you

1987 xj. Axle tube I.D. measured 1.972". Chamfered axle tube I.D. with dremel, cleaned axle tube I.D. & polished with emery cloth. Left Bore-Tite coating on O.D. of 11776 CR seal & it installed very nicely.

old thread, but i'm in the middle of dealing with this, and my axle tube is 2.032". the best solution i have found is to grind it out to the next size up, which is 2.066". that's a lot of material with not much chance of keeping it round or concentric to the axle shaft. anyone have a better idea?

talk to Rob @ RWKHausSupply, I seem to remember there being two different seals when we put the yukon one piece conversion in 1xfloppy's rig

National Seal part number 453063 specs show it's for a 2.047" housing bore & the seal o.d. is 2.051"
Not a perfect fit, but slightly smaller in o.d. than the 2.066" seal in the kits. Less material to remove. Just a thought.
