Ummmm, the Eastern US XJ'ers vs. the Western US XJ'ers in any sort of wheelin situation. Both sides continue to talk smack, but no even has ever taken place. It was close to happening at the CO event, but a bunch of the guys bailed or something. I just heard the story second hand. No way in hell I was there, I'm just a WebWheeler :D ;)

As Woody so eloquently stated, this came about as a way for the no-show CO boys to save face because they didn't show up to run much on the Best of the West trip......which was completely in CO.

Here's the deal. We will have two teams of four drivers, from west of CO and from CO east. There will be two similarly prepared XJ's.....31's and locked rear axles. Each of the four drivers will run the chosen course, and the combination of scoring of all four drivers wins. We can flip to see who uses which rig, and hopefully we can keep them together to complete the competition. Grant is bringing the rigs.

It should be fun, both to drive in and to watch. :D :D

Thanks Richard,

If its for the CO guys to save face you might consider a CO against the greater 49 states.

But Grant seems to be the only XJ wheeler in CO .....

should be fun

Nope auto's - we knew you CA guys wouldn't be able to drive a stick.

Will you manage if we remove the cupholders?

:D :D

Not all of us like these Juice box things. That means I will only have about 4 days of wheeling an auto before this takes place.

oh scottypants, you are so close minded...all you stick grinders trying so desperatly to argue that things are more "manly"....

yeah, I guess it must be a coincidence why you see so many 700's in all the competition rigs....I'd love to witness you tell an erocc unlimited auto wheeler that autos are for whimps!

:D

I'm at a bit of a toss up about the stick vs. auto thing. I figure one of two things (or a combination of both)

1. All these stick guys are trying to compensate for some other deficiency through the needless extra complications of running three pedals and a stick on rocks.

And / Or

2. They have sticks so that they always have an excuse why they couldn't get up x obstacle.

You got it wrong. On a properly setup manual rig you will only need to use one pedal, the gas. ;)

I'm with ya Scotty, and the reason those others prefer their vague slushboxes is so they can keep both hands on the wheel to stand on the brake for the downhills.

Besides, what exactly the hell is a 1-2 gear? For the Welk manuever? (and ah wun und a too, ah wun und a too) :D

And Beez - keep it clean. Auto-erocc-ticism does not belong on a family board!

A good driver doesn't fret over the equipment

For the purposes of this escapade. They're both automatic rigs... if that handicapps ya one way or another :dunno: bail and find another driver?

Both 5 speeds and autos are fun IMHO ...and a stupid driver can make either type unuseful.

With a handthrottle you can wheel with your feet proped up on the dash.

I've never understood what a hand throttle is for. You could use it if you have a Mobi-Weld to keep the RPMs up I suppose.

I hear that

I grew up driving sticks...

purely freaked when I got to wheel a K5 1009 in the Army...1st non-stick vehicle I got a lot of seat time in.

My dad's XJ and my MJ had a stick, but all my other XJ junk has AW4s... I am undecided which I like better. My XJ AW4 has the TC and 1-2 (3-4) toggles so other than lacking a clutch, it's real similar to a 4 speed manual.
