Dems pulling out all the stops...

Yes, lawsuits are one of the MANY reasons, but not the largest reason. The shortage stems from there being no money to be made when it comes to producing flu shots, so most companies have simply stopped producing them.

The government has taken a fairly hands off approach by allowing market forces to dictate supply. That works out great for the few suppliers that have stuck it out and continue to produce the vaccine, but now we lose one of those suppliers and the government has a public health crisis (some say) on their hands. Should something that protects public health and safety be left soley to free market?

Beats me, but my point was that it's easy for each side to blame the other side because they both pretty much dropped the ball on this one.

Incorrect! The "shortage" is not a shortage at all. Thank the media for drumming up the "lack" of flu shots. Last year we had a "shortage" according to the media, when it was all said and done and they had moved onto another story, there were 30K flu shots that sat around and went bad. There is no shortage this year, the flu season hasn't begun and these batches are just the first shipments. If anyone "dropped the ball" on this one, it would be the CDC, not the parties. Politics doesn't play a part in the CDC, get your facts straight. For the past 30 years, there has been an over production of flu vaccines. There will be this year, too. Thank you, media for starting a panic! Thank you Democraps for showing how you will try to take advantage of Senior Citizens and Children for your own gains. Give me a break...

So why is Bush saying there is a shortage and he is telling people who don't need a shot not to get one this year? I heard straight from his lips, no media markup.

Because wouldn't the media jump all over him, if he didn't? Kerry jumped on Cheny for getting one, and he is in the "High Rish" category.

Although conservatives want to bash liberals for everything from taxes to patriotism it would seem that our founding fathers were a bunch of liberal scum. I know I'll wear the liberal label proudly if someone calls me as such.
I tend to think for myself, after looking at the facts; I'll never be part of the flock of sheep. Keep in mind the biggest thing at stake in this election, the supreme court nomination. I certainly don't want a conservative leaning justice appointed, as this will have a more lasting affect than anything Bush could possibly fuck up. Just my two cents...

The CDC is referring to the current situation as a shortage. Please explain to me how the CDC is to blame. I'm not asking to be a smart ass, I truly want to know.

The CDC is the body that forcasts the amout of vaccine needed. Not all vaccine gets manufactured and delivered at one time. HHS website says they have enough vaccine and antivirals to cover 100 million people. That's 30K more than took the vaccine last year.

Don't want a conservative on the SC? Then don't bitch when your fav wheeling spot gets shut down because some spotted tree frog habitats in the area. Don't bitch when your guns get taken away, when your kids have to listen to someone who you think has a moral idea that is 180* against what you think, and you think they are too young to hear it. When the only place someone can smoke a cigarette is in their bedroom with the blanket over their head and someone still may call the cops. When someone is beating your kids and raping your wife and you can't do a damn thing about it because you can't defend yourself. Yeah, those examples may be extreme but I don't think that kids as young as 9 or 10 should be shown how to use a condom, have them passed out to them and told that "you're going to do it anyway". That if I want to have a smoke and I'm outside, that I can do it, not be told, "I have my rights", well what about my rights? That if I want to have a firearm to defend myself and my family and to hunt tasty animals, that I can do so because the Constitiution says I can. If the 2nd amendment is "outdated" so is number 1! :soapbox:

It's funny you say that, I see way more righties bad mouthing and bashing F911 (...a movie...built for entertainment purposes...) then I do lefties "turning it into the honest to God truth". Can't comment on any of his movies (built for entertainment purposes) myself, never seen any of it.
I hope you're not basing this statement solely on people here. On other sites I've been haunting where its mostly all dems, they spout crap from that movie constantly. They don't always say its from F9/11, but its the same regurgitated nonsense that Michael Moore put forth in his "movie"

Or how about the new abortion laws? A teenage girl who after being shown in school how to use a condom and not using gets herself pregnant, she can then take time out of her school day to go and get an abortion, all behind her parents' backs. I just had a little girl and that's one of the biggest reasons I can think of to leave CA. They let crap like that happen. With someone like Kerry in office, it'd probably be only a matter of time before the rest of the nation took a similar stance. The last Dem in office made it legal to have abortions right up until the day the baby is born...I'm against abortion period, but that thought sickens me. 37 weeks into the pregnancy, the child is a viable life form, it can survive outside the womb already and now the mom decides never mind I don't want this kid anymore. She goes in is induced to push him/her half way out and then the child is murdered. Pro-choicers say "my body, my decision" but what about the father of the baby or more importantly, the baby itself? Isn't life one of our right's in the Constitution? Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness? What happened to personal responsibility? If you went and had sex and now you're pregnant, deal with it. Carry the baby to term and if necessary, give the child up for adoption...sorry all, I kinda got way off-topic. I'll step off my :soapbox: and move back towards the original topic now.

neither side is telling me why to vote
You should vote because its your voice. Its the one chance you can play a role in the future of our country. You have been fairly vocal on all the threads discussing politics, so its obvious you are interested and have an opinion on the elections. If you chose not to voice your opinion then what's that say? It says you don't value it. I don't care if you vote Kerry or Bush, or even pencil in Nader. Just vote. :patriot:

How is the CDC at fault if they forecasted they needed X number of vaccines, but then the supplier can't meet that number?

The HHS website I'm looking at (hhs.gov) says they have enough vaccine and antivirals to cover 40 million people (potentially). That's 60 million doses with 2.6 of those 60 not coming online until Jan. 05. Apparantly 30 million doses have already been distributed. Where did you see 100 million? :dunno:

No, absolutely not basing my statements solely on what I've read on NAXJA. I typically don't read much into political conversations on other sites, I was speaking from face to face conversations.

Why did you put movie in quotes?

So do not get the flu shot. No big deal. I have not had one for 17-18 years. They are a farce, and for the weak minded, the young, and the elderly. Which are you?

I put movie in quotes because that's not really a movie but not really a documentary...nor is it his own work. Its a bunch of clips and random stuff from the public domain mixed and matched to support his view.

I've never had one, but I've never had the flu either.

Never had the flu? How old are you?

I never had it until I got in to my 30's. Still rare, but I still tend to whoop it's butt within a few days when I do get sick.

Well, hosting the site does not mean I look through every file just to see how old somebody is. I have things to do. :) I am not like some that have the luxury of earning a salary and surfing NAXJA all day at my employers expense (not meaning you... unless the shoe fits, of course).

I provide the space and manage the machine... does not mean I know everybody and their age. ;)
