December 30th Snow Run to Jack's Pass

Not leaving there at 9, meeting for breakfast. We may be there sooner, not sure how long it will take to get there.

OK, I just got off the phone with the ranger and everything is open and being maintained on the Index side. No plans for anything closed on the Skykomish side either. My preferance is to meet up at the Beckler River Campground area (it is actually closed but I remember several rather large open parking lots that should fit us, tow rigs, trailers, etc. As you go East on Hwy 2 (up Stevens Pass) the campground is just after Skykomish on the left side of the road. We will meet here at 10:00am.

I do not intend to meet for breakfast but will try to be there about 9:30 ish so that I can unload the trailer, air down, etc.

We would love to have anyone that is interested. I don't think there is any reason to go buy a tow strap specifically for this trip unless you need one anyway. There should be plenty to share, but they are VERY likely to be used repeatedly on these trips (notice the earlier posted photo!!). 31's are fine, but will be put closer to the back of the group due to less ground clearance, which also normally means more ice than snow and therefore more chance for slippage. Good AT's work fine with the normal snow conditions and open/open is not an issue at all, usually more helpfull on the packed stuff.

Tow points are important front and back.
If you have chains bring them.
We can't have too many shovels or tow straps.
Bring plenty of warm clothes and food.
Plan for it be raining or snowing!!

Great run for less experienced, kids, sig. others, etc.
Body damage is ALWAYS a possibility, but much less likely on this trip.

Should take us 40 minutes or so to get there.

Matt, John, anyone else coming from the south, if you want to caravan up to the DC, meet on the onramp on hwy 167, Pacific/Algona exit, at 0800hrs. If not give my cell a call, and we can possibly meet you on 167 farther north. 253-332-3809.

40 minutes!? From Pacific to the DC? It's a full 70 miles from Tacoma.... Did you recently install some JATO bottles you had laying around...?

As to the convoy, I'm not sure, but I'll probably want sleep more than breakfast.

Meh, maybe an hour if you do the speed limit. You are farther south than me, but probably not by much.

Anyways, see ya there either way.

We'd more than happy to have you join us. I talked to Adam (adamusmc2002) who knows you from S.D. and he said you're a nice guy and know what you're doing. I think tow points are the only thing you didn't mention, so that's the only x-factor, I think.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Matt-

Thanks for the invite approval and I am addressing the tow hook problem tomorrow. I also purchased a 5K pound tow strap, which should be good enough for a light tug in the muck or snow. I am really looking forward to this weekend.

I have a clevis hook (or d-ring) shackle hitch attachment for the rear of my XJ, so that should cover everything except a fire extinguisher for trip requirements.

Do y'all have any other requirements for a trail outing. I don't have any spare tie rod ends or u-joints, but I don't think it will be that serious. I could be wrong though.

Here is a pic of the Heep I will be rolling in, just for recognition when I show up.

I am building my front swaybar disco's tomorrow as well.

You will be fine for a snow run, as far as spare parts go. If anything goes wrong, we'll get you taken care of. Ill be showing up in my POS, so I wouldn't worry. :D Looking foward to wheeling with ya. As far as a FE, you can pick them up for cheap at GI Joes, but I wouldn't worry, most of us have one as it is.

Nice Jeep BTW.

Sounds like you're pretty well set. Only thing I make sure to emphasize is having warm clothes, good boots that will keep water out, and some supplies in the off-chance that we have to spend the night.

The wheeling will just be a really snowy road, but conditions change and bad things can happen. I learned that Semper Peratus isn't just the Coast Guard motto, it's something to live by.

I remember on last year's run we had a really easy time on the way in, but as the sun went down conditions changed and things got a lot more difficult. (Trip Report from last year) I also recently had a snow wheeling trip go from a "home by 3 p.m." into an all night nearly scary debacle; Trip Report. It was still fun, but only because we were all prepared to spend the night if it came down to it...and it very nearly did.

Other than that, you should do fine. Oh yeah, nice looking rig!

Luckily for me and the wife, anytime we travel up north, we take plenty of water/food/supplies. We always bring our sleeping bags and extra blankets- so thanks again for the heads up. I will make sure to bring the heavier jackets and lots of hot hands and other camping equipment.

Perfect. Oh, and IF Adam shows up (he's still on the fence) he usually has plenty of gear, should it come down to it.

See ya Saturday!

We don't need no stinkin fire extinguisher, we can throw snow balls at it.:laugh3:

I should add that the YJ is part of my recovery gear! (38"swampers, spool, ARB, winch, strap & severe lack of a heater!)

I might bring a couple of buddies if they don't have Emphasis this Saturday.

Hans will have to find somebody else:( to play tag with this time .:shiver:
I`ll be invading:passgas: the Portlands turf for the next 3 days:laugh:

Not a problem. In fact, I can almost guarantee he will be out trail leader with 38's!!

The more, the merrier!
Eli, You know better than that!! Not always accurate;)

Sorry Howard I am not going either. I don't meet the minimum requirements this time. :( I am running three TRXUS, Pirelli A/T and a spare that won't hold air. Final I can go to 33" or 34.5". Anyone have opinions on Maxxis?

I guess they will have to find another pair to laugh at.

Have fun guys and take lots of pics of stuff other then Matt posing.
