Dana 30 Build?

i did my research myself in the way of wasting money on a hp d44. and then i built a d60 for half the price and was much happier not having to worry about u joints and ring gears everytime i wheel fairly difficult trails.
If i were to do it over again, i'd continue running my cheaply build d30 (simple locker, chromoly shafts) until i had the ambition to go bigger than 35's and then i'd build a d60.
Pretty sure you're not looking at any pictures aside from what you read on the internet.

That's fantastic. Here's a cookie! As I've said from the beginning... a 60 isn't for everyone. Simple as that, and the only point I'm trying to make.

But it should be for anyone who wants to run 37" and bigger tires, that is the point we are trying to make. If you still have a d30 and want to go up to 37's, why build an axle that's barely adequate, when you can put in one that will still be suficient if you choose to go bigger?

Although a very common practice, not everyone falls into that boat.

TNT's black XJ is a perfect example. They chose to build a newer 30 instead of a 60 to run 37" Iroks. I guess they don't know what they're doing then.

yea, if you're mall crawling, then sure, run your d30 on 37's. and use frame stiffeners that are only welded on the perimeter. genius.

ummm... im sure your familiar with the build, but the low wagon is hardly a mall crawler....

i guess its worth mentioning that it is a JK30, which is leaps and bounds over our XJ30? im no expert...

I was refering to the wrangler guys running 40's at the mall. We all know(most of us at least) if your going to wheel anything hard on big tires, tons are the way to go.

and? he wasnt exactly beating on it. and i'd hardly call that the "unthinkable". there are situations where you need to use some throttle, and the d30 will not hold up with 37's. If you want to stick to more mild stuff where there are no serious undercuts, chances to bind your ujoints, or spots you need to bump it over, then sure.... run a d30. But at that point, why run 37's? You'll have more fun on 33's.
