D30 pinion bearing parts/kits

I installed a HP30 a couple of years ago that has a whine in 4WD under load, shuts up immediately in 2WD coast. From what I've read this is the outer pinion bearing. I also have a leak on the pinion seal. I cleaned the whole thing and replaced the axle seals before installing it but did not know about the pinion problems at that time. The axle operates fine, no grinding or anything, just a little trouble with the pinion bearing and seal AFAICT. My basic plan is/was to get the pinion bearing and seal replaced at a driveline shop, and save a full rebuild for later if/when I regear and locker. I don't have a press or some of the other tools.

Come to find out the shop I use for engine work just bought a bunch of new toys for setting up gears and I may be able to get them to replace both bearings and redo the whole setup if I supply the parts.

The problem is I don't know what parts I should get. I know the part numbers for the outer and inner bearings and races and the pinion seal, but thinking I should get an overhaul kit of some kind with extra shims and crush and whatever. Yukon has a bunch of kits with different parts, FIIK what the difference between them

What do I need?

I'd let them supply the parts.

That way if it's wrong they will warranty the entire job.

For doing it at home a master rebuild kit is usually the way to go because it includes new nut, washer, seal, complete shin pack, and gear marking compound.

HP 30 does not have a crush washer. Only shims.

I believe the Yukon kits come with new slingers/baffles. There are 3 in an HP30.

If you beat out the races, you may damage a small baffle that may not be supplied. It's Spicer 32349.

Having a set of carrier setup bearings and an inner pinion setup bearing can be handy. If you make your own, I suggest using new bearings. ECGS sells a pretty cheap kit that had all 3. The pinion setup bearing is usually only needed if you're changing gears and looking to determine pinion depth.

In case this turns up in a search: Robert at RWK Haus Supply set me right with a G2 Master Overhaul kit with all four Timken bearings, a seal, and a bunch of shims, also threw in a baffle. It was about $100 to my door. Anybody confused about which kit to buy, ask Robert.
