Crash and burn

Well it was a beautiful day up here and I probably should have gone fishing. Instead, this Tard went for a ride on his Tard (thought I'd get that outta the way before anyone else did). All was well until I came into a left hander. I don't know what happened. Probably my lack of experience but the bike felt funny. I downshifted and grabbed some brake but it wasn't enough to get things under control. I ended up laying it down at 40mph. Some guy was nice enough to help me out and throw the bike in his pickup and give me lift home. I just got back from the ER. I thought I had broken the patella and my thumb. No broken bones. I landed on my chest doing my best Superman. My left knee got the worst of things.

The bike seems to be OK but I'll know more in the coming days. The worst part of this I think (other than that I could have been killed...or god forbid...someone else hurt) was when they scrubbed the road rash with that brush. I don't know that I've ever felt pain like that. My g/f actually passed out. I have done dumba$$ things before that resulted in ruining cars. Then I beat myself up for weeks everytime I looked at the carnage. This time is different. I don't know if it was my fault or what. I am constantly replaying it all over in my head. Probably normal. I have never been in a wreck on a bike or vehicle.

For those familiar with the area...I was heading from 285 towards Deckers. I had just passed the trailhead for Cheeseman Canyon and was working my way through the twisties. To the right of the road it drops off substantially and the nastiest part is that there is barbed wire on the few feet of shoulder there. Doesn't look like I hit my head b/c the helmet is in good shape. My textile, armored jacket and carbon gloves did their job. Boots protected my ankles but jeans didn't cut the mustard. I always rip on people that ride w/o a helmet or a jacket. I will definitley be getting full leathers now.

Ohhhhhhhhhh the Vicodin (sp?) is beginning to take over.

Ouch. Reminds me a little of my brother's first day with his new dirt bike. He tipped it over on wet grass, and the footpeg tore off enough of his knee that you could see the patella.

Get better soon!

sorry man, that sucks. did you open you knee up, miniscus (sp)? anyways, it looks nasty. hope you bike is ok. good luck with that.

Okie, Heather just called you a turd. Don't worry though bro...I had yer back.

Gil...I'll take it to the shop and let my buddy go over it real good. I'm sure I'll climb back on the horse. Besides...Okie already got dibs.

Before the tragic events unfolded...I did get to ride with a guy that was on a 98 Super Hawk with Erion Racing pipes on it. It sounded fanger lickin' good.

Sorry about the crash and road rash. Having been hit on my bike before, I know the pain. I passed out when they scrubbed my back. By the way, it isnearly March, take down the Christmas lights!

Rough night of sleep last night. I'm getting around pretty good this morning though.

The lights....yeah that's her way of jazzing up this rental so it's a little less painful knowing we're no longer homo-ners. I ;love the design thingy at the top of the window. Not sure what it's called. It's very 70's. I think the Brady Bunch was filmed here back in the day.

:laugh2:

Riv, my man, you know Mr. T would have been able to catch you mid-slide and pull you into the back of his van before you got hurt. Even if he missed and got you after the injury, his powerful healing hands would have cured you in seconds...

I'm way to much of a wuss to just elave it at that without saying, 'damn, that sucks about your wipeout dude, I hope you get well!'.

Damn conscience!

Damn you Beej. The Mr. T stuff is making me laugh...and it hurts. Now that I think about it I may have said some things that woulda made both you and T proud to the Dr. "Whatchu scrubbin' for foooo....aint no dirt in that knee". Maybe in light of the accident I will convert to the T side.

I had this experience after a crash at a downhill mountain bike race. 45 mph on my back in shale/gravel.

I still have nightmares about the German nurse at the hospital with the big az scrub brush saying "ja, this may sting a bit."

Sorry to hear you F'd up your leg and the bike. Your knee looks familiar..

I went down 17+ years ago, 56 stitches across my right knee, wasnt able to walk for almost 9 months. Havent riden since..
