Cool U.P. trip site

That is awesome! I'm pretty much in the same situation you are...kid on the way in about 3 months. Someday.

I completely forgot about that trip! I've been meaning to research some new areas in the UP, but normally I just head up the Keweenaw to my usual out of the way places that need 4wd.

Its a blast, I probably studied more on the Copper Mining history than I did for Michigan Tech. I have led some "tours" around up there with friends. Sadly a lot doesn't exist anymore. The last 20 years have been brutal for that. Jeff (ChiXJeff) was a Techie from a "few" :D years ago and there was a bit that still existed then. Even my old boss from my Civil Engineering intership graduated there in '88 (?) reported there still being plenty to see.

What does exist and is still either intact or in ruins is well documented for the most part.

This website is very informational, lot of info there as well as maps. I have, on occasion, written articles for him.

That's not to discourage you. You'll get an idea of what's still around if you browse that website.

Huh, I think I remember that now.

wow more UP stuff on here - great to see it. I went to Tech, graduated in '01 (even married a local gal - lol). You guys ever head to the Deleware mine? It's self guided tour, and about 125' below the ground - up past Ahmeek I believe. We head up there at least twice a year (visit the wife's mom, and my parents)..

That's a pretty cool site. I'm a Tech grad '08. There are still a few ghost towns around the keeweenaw. A few are just graveyards in the middle of the woods, or just building foundations. The old rocket range on the tip of the Keeweenaw is a fun drive also. I was in a friends wrangler when he rolled it about 15min north of Copper Harbor
