Completely topless

Don't start with a canback. I priced one at like 1200 for my longbed superduty. The smaller ones are cheaper, but still very pricey. There's no way I'd drop that kind of coin for something I was going to cut into, and modify.

I'm building my own. I'm fabbing the frame out of steel, and there's a guy at a local boat shop that says he'll stitch a cover out of tonneau material for less than $200.

I'm sure it'll be nowhere near as nice as Den's, but way cheaper...

Im all of about 300$ deep since I was able to borrow a bender and had the rest of the tools I needed.

Sorta a digression--
Mines not completely topless, but I chopped the back portion of. I am still deciding what I am going to do with the tailgate. I really like the look of the MJ tailgate swapped in, but I've never seen any pics of how people have gotten them mounted up. I've also seen the stock rear hatch cut down and fabbed in, I just need a few pictures if anyone has any. Oh, here are a few pics if anyone wants them--

I did do the rear tailgate cut down to fit, its nmot finished yet and I kinda messed up when I overcut. I ran the rear D pillers to the bumper instead of the bed and to get the tailgate to fit it need some chopping.

See That is closer to what I'm talking about. Except that I want to KEEP THE PILLARS. But serious cudos to you badcop. that is a great bit of cutting. I don't think that I want to go that far living in the more northern climes.

Trailer queens are great if that is what you like. I like the lines of the XJ and while badcops looks bada$$ its not quite the look i'm after. Great Ideas though.

Does the cage hold up well in that config or have you made any changes since wheeling it?

Badcop-- do you have anyother pictures of how you you attatched the rear hatch? I'd appreciate it greatly--

I can take some more today after work for yah, right now its just ratchet strapped in place (work in progress) Im using a set of home depot gate hinges, you know the big ones and just screwing it down for now under the exisitng interior panels. Now the latch I havnt figured out yet but I was leaning towards the slide latches usually seen on swing out tire carriers on the inside to keep it shut.

Also the only reason its topless, well, refer to avitar, lol. :)

I really like RevDens Cherokee chop, for around a year I have been thinking of my alternative to buying a 1st gen 4runner. I like the idea of getting an MJ buying an after market soft top bed cover and chopping the rear of the cabin. The reason for chopping the cab is, I am 6'4" 230 lbs and toO big for a regular cab  If I can do this and move the seat back a few inches like I did in my 4 door Cherokee and NOT CREATE a giant blind spot .... I think this would be a sweet custom jeep. I would have to weld the bed and cab together to get a weather/water tight cabin. I would then make custom wheel wells in the rear, drop in a 4.7 stroker, a rear seat, raise up the gas tank, put in a cage, and wheel the crap out of it.

What do you guys think and has anyone seen this done ?

an MJ uses the same front doors as a 4door XJ, and I would think that moving the seat back would kill your visiblity. I think it would be better to start with a 2 door XJ with the longer doors and start cutting from there.
