Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Got new tires on the 4Runner.
Gosh dang good tires are expensive. But they make a heck of a difference!

I love my duratracs. Great tire but not cheap.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

The second to the last Jeep I bought cost me $450. Put in a new MC and front axle bearing and battery, about $200 in cost (parts only, did the work myself) and it was ready to drive.

The 89 Renix we bought almost 2 weeks ago was $1500, been a DD since then in Co Springs, everything works. May need a new blower motor anyday, or just cleaning leaves out of the blower....verdict is not in yet.

My daughter says she put 200 highway miles on it and it still has a 1/2 tank of gas!!!! My 87 runs out of gas at 220 miles LOL.

Last dealer I used cost me $3000 in seven repairs in 2 years to one transmission on a brand new Dodge Charger I bought in 76, dumped it at about 4 years old, and maybe 70,000 miles. I should have dumped it when it needed new valve stem seals at 12,000 miles and 6 months old.

I have not let a dealer near my rigs since 1979. Bought one part at a dealer in 12 years. Roof nutserts for the jeep roof racks. Old ones were toast.

Question is what will you replace it with if you dump it?

Ok. I can admit that I'm just very skeptical right now because of the issues I've had with this thing as well as my experience with the dealer. I have a warranty to 100,000 miles but even with the warranty I've put $1200 in the thing this last month. Trying to figure out if I should get rid of it.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I may need to have my daughter drop by and have one of you experts test drive her jeep to see if you can figure out what is wrong. She does have a power steering fluid leak, just topped it off after it got low enough to stall the jeep on a U turn. But she says it looses power when it is straightening out from the turn. She drove an 89 Cherokee 2wd for 8 years, and this an 89 4wd. Being in Houston I can do a test drive. And sometimes you just need to be there and have decades of experience to feel and hear what is really going on.

I hope it is just her and the PS fluid issue. But I need to make sure there is not something going on with the front steering-suspension or axle u-joints, etc. Only shows up on a left turn, or left U-turn, she says. Today was the first time it stalled, and the PS level was at the cold mark, with the fluid hot. I told her to use Lucas PS stop leak, which did miracles for mine last year.

Does she ever come up North?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Yes, she is traveling all over the place, LOL. Thanks!!!! We may have fixed it. It was only a problem on left U turns. It was way low on PS fluid. She topped it off with Lucas stop leak for now, She will clean everything and then watch for the leak source.

Also she may have been low on fuel!!!! That problem is fixed too. So far I think it past the turn tests. Only time will tell, but sooner or later she will need to track you all down.

BTW she is a great professional photographer!!!! She was doing Ricer race photos in Detroit this past year. Does weddings, events like Spartan Races, kids, family, and so on....

She traveled to Lost Wages Nevada and LA California last weekend, so yes. Bought the jeep north of Detroit. How far north are you?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I'm available the next two days.

Can you PM me your contact details and I will forward them to her for emergencies, etc, if that's OK? Hell she could be living a few blocks from you LOL.

Oops, I forget!

I am in Golden Colorado, due West of that stink-hole we call Denver, home of the Adolph Coors Brewery, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the Colorado School of Mines, among other things...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

That's a very good question. When I bought the Jeep a year ago I was also considering a Tacoma and a 4 Runner. Both the Toyotas were more expensive and had more miles than the Liberty models I looked at and were in the 2008ish model year range. That's what made me finally decide on the Jeep. Now I'm really questioning that decision. I know some Toyotas can have nice options but, at this point, I don't even really care about heated seats or Bluetooth. I want something that's reliable. I know several people that drive a Liberty and they have not had issues.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

My Tacoma hasn't missed a tick in the last 9000 miles the last few months. It is a 2011 at 116k now. I bought it around 107k and while it was a bit expensive compared to a jeep, it is super reliable and pretty comfy for being a base and the smaller (access cab) model. 6' long bed is nice. 2005-2015 is nearly identical with just a grill/headlight/and hood change in 2012.

But remember, if you ignore the process in which they are built and the components for them are mined/drilled/etc it's way less intrusive than o/g!!

She, and when he visits, here brother, will want to tour the Brewery and sample the goods, LOL. CSofM and the NREL would be the ones I would/will visit, LOL. Cool place from the sound of it.

You could always just settle for glowing in the dark, LOL. Fukushima is back in the news.

Thanks I emailed her all the details from all three of you. So far she has gotten lucky, but sooner or later she will need help. All the tools and parts are in Texas with me. Trying to get her to join tripple A also. Down her, and in Detroit she had friends 24/7 to bail her out.....

Which scanner do you have? I finally bought an MT-2500 rig with all the trimmings. Have you seen the new ones just for Renix Nickintime is building?

I went to mines for a bit. Kinda like the big bang theory there... Golden, for being a suburb of Denver, is a pretty cool area tho. Don't forget your free beer at the Coors factory!
