Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Not sure I'm fond of the balloon look of 18+ wide tires ...I want the height but a bit less balloon .I think in Swampers this leaves the 42sx2 and 43sx...Irok 42 stixky and in Maxxis the 42 Trep comp version. I will wait to buy tires until the Jeep is trail ready so they do not rot on the trailer like the poor 44s that are showing their age with 95% tread and dry cracking rubber . I think I will treat whatever new rubber I get with formula-v to keep the rubber from rotting this time .

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Well, I've been on the fence about buying or building trusses for the D30 and 8.8 swap going in the coming build.

I've always eyed Artec, but didn't feel like plopping down the funds.

I like Barnes4WD rear truss, but they don't have one for the XJ/TJ D30.

Well, Artec is having a Black Friday sale, and on top of the normal discount, I got a "first time buyer discount".

So, had to pull the trigger, seeing as I was able to get the 8.8 modular truss and the D30 truss (no UCA mount) for a little more than it would have cost me for just the 8.8 truss shipped. Oh yeah, I also got a free T-shirt, beanie, and ornament :D

Looks like I won't be needing to bust back out some fab skills and make my own!

Nothing wrong with buying pre fab parts like a truss it saves tons of time , and a cnc cut and bent items looks cleaner than most home fab parrts and since those tools are not monetarily feasible for most hobbyist buying pre fab it is a win .

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I agree, I have absolutely no problem buying pre-fab parts. Especially from Artec and RuffStuff, I feel they both have fair prices on very well made parts. Like 1-tonxj said, it save a lot of time and most likely will look better than home-brew parts.

Yep, I agree.

What I would have made, would have been probably just as clean for the most part, but would have taken me several days to make

If I had a CNC, no issue. I was kind of wanting something a little more "custom", but I'll be more than happy with these :D

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I'm planning the artec for my rear since it'll be linked and their kit also moves the rear brakes up. Which, as you know, seems to be a problem of mine to bang into. :roflmao:

When you drive by braille you need strong things to drive through the rocks. At least I know I do. :D

Re: The Colorado BS thread

The Commerce City Crack Heads strike again...was using the dirt lot to work on my XJ due fire ban restriction in the hills and Sometime early morning I woke up while sleeping Saturday into Sunday in my Semi it was around midnight and I spotted nothing behind my semi when I turned on the utility lights. My pickup , trailer and Jeep are 3 feet behind my semi and behind my trailer is a parked day cab the city guy uses for utiliity I could see no one I even hit the fob for my pick up to turn in the bed lights ...I did however spot a pickup sitting on road just uphill from the lot and swear I spotted a flashlight comming up the hill but it never came to the Black pickup I think it was Ford Ranger anyway I waited for an hour for the truck to leave or see activity and it left ...AND THIS is what I found done to the day cab behind my Jeep/trailer Sunday.

The battery tray emptied the battery hold downs cut with with a bolt cutter and the battery connections cut the sane way the battery cover left sitting under the battery box/steps...how much could you possibly get for a few used batteries that is worth the trouble , and when I sleep in that truck offwork I do so with my Glock 21 , so trying to make off with my tools or f-ing up my hard work and money pit on the trailer will have you dodging .45 caliber rounds thinking about the bad choices in life you made .

Anyone else not seeing the images 1ton has been posting?

Batteries are paying "decent" at the recyclers, particularly the big batteries. And from what I've seen, they're easy picking on trucks and equipment left sitting in lots. Quick and little noise made when snatching 'em.

Beyond that, if you've got a dead truck and need those kind of batteries, that's a quick score rather than cough up $400+ for a pair.

As for the batteries there is a scrap yard close the PCA drop lot next to Suncor off brighton rd so makes sense ...but how " well" could they pay to possiby be beat with piece of cold rolled solid stock I carry as a " tire thunper"...or the glock "I don't carry" in my cmv ;-)
