Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

30's. Xj/tj vs jk. Aside from the different gearing options and width. Is there a specific gain to justify the value?
Grin I know you ran one in the wj right?

Crossover steering, aftermarket brake options (Baer, Teraflex, etc.), more aftermarket parts in general. The JK the king of what Led likes to call credit card wheelers. That brings a lot of aftermarket support to the table.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Pinion is larger, outer shafts are 32 spline - some housing issues on JK's so a truss is in order around 35" of tire. They are significantly wider, near 64". Not sure it's worth the effort in an XJ...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Aha^^^^^

Well as much as I was looking to start acquiring parts, ill have to wait a bit as I jut got home to find my damn bike missing.

Well that's the thing. I wasn't looking to beat on it like I used to, but was looking for more 'reliability' without getting stupid on axles.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I'll rephrase -- I Mike is going to beat the snot out of his rig as he has in the past, it might be worth it, though with the fab work involved you could go more stout than JK gear for the same effort. If Mike is going to cruise moderate trails on 33-35's I wouldn't bother ditching the stock XJ gear.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Plan on cruising moderate. But 35's for sure. I'd just like to be overbuilt for once.
Plan is to truss regardless.
And ditch the 8.25 regardless.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Anyone know of a local shop/guy that rebuilds steering boxes? Figured I'd ask before I go the reman stocker or Durango route even though I've had terrible luck with remans on my work truck. Just can't afford a PSC and the like right now and haven't found a good condition box at the JY

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I don't do remans anymore. I simply could not get seals that were any good.

What ever you do, don't get a reman from Autozone. I couldn't get cores so I bought three from AZ. I tore them down to machine the ports and found that none had the right number of balls or the right size balls. None had the bearings replaced. IIRC, they were from Cardone.

About the only place I can personally recommend is West Texas Offroad.

Awesome, I'll check them out. I've heard it's hit or miss at Napa too but I'd rather avoid that all together even if it does have a lifetime warranty. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Best power steering rebuilder around with TONS of good reviews and my personal endorsement to have your stock unit rebuilt or a proper Durango box built.......

Go see Humberto at Colorado Automotive Rebuild Specialist (C.A.R.S.)
