Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I don't remember it looking so clean. Photoshop?

Congrats. Hope to make it out your way and do some wheeling. What is that saying about having the time but not the money and vice versa?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Came unsoldered from the collar. I can fix it, i'm just not too excited about the prospect of disassembling my whole front end again.

I Re used the one that came with it, which was used and too short. I ordered a new one but it turned out to be the wrong style. I just re soldered the old one and ran it through the diff cover since I was in a rush to go wheeling. It held up for a few years, but as the poly air line feeding it got older it got stiffer and has been putting more stress on the copper tube, it looks like it finally gave out this week.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I finally got around to fixing the ol' drill press. The pully over the headstock started walking around, the set screw was scoring the shaft the pully mounts on. The ridge created by the set screw was chewing up the pully.

Not a pretty picture:

I installed a new divot, replaced a belt, and put fresh grease on everything that moves. The whole time I was working on it, I was thinking of a used Delta DP I saw on craigslist.

I took the test hole to 1/2". The pully is not true to it's axis, but it held up to the load.

Good thing too! I came home from work, to a broken washing machine. That thing is outta here!!!

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Not gonna be a fun week.....

My father in law is here from Arizona. He's the appointed executor of my wife's deceased aunt's "estate".

Today, we find out that her condo is worth $40K. She's mortgaged on it to $85K. Her '08 Sentra was given back to the bank as well - owed more than it was worth.

She has a $10K life insurance policy.

Her condo is a mess. Disgusting really. We checked it out this evening. Piles of newspapers covering the floor. Months of unopened bills - no phone, no satellite..... power works for now. House is littered with so much craft stuff..... cross stitch/needle point projects, supplies, new stuff never used....... more than most hobby stores carry. Dust an 1/8" thick. Worst part is toward the end...... she must have been pretty incontinent. I can't even describe the bathroom and her bed...... and the carpet between the two......

We're going back tomorrow afternoon with trash bags, gloves, Clorox wipes and as much initiative as we can muster......

The real ironic thing here is that none of her "blood" relatives wanted anything to do with her. She had to appoint her sister's husband (my father in law) to deal with her passing. She was so goddamned awful to my wife that in '03 we told her to leave us alone and never contact us again. We look over her will today and in '03 she removed my wife from the will. Half of her estate is willed to her church, the other half to blood relatives.....The 3 people dealing with her estate get absolutely nothing.......... of nothing.

At this point, we're just going to go through all the stuff and assess what's of value and then call the church to see if they have any interest in sending a bunch of their parishoners over to cart off whatever they want. After that.... we're not sure, but the majority of it will likely just get left in the house for the bank to deal with.

Yay.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I feel for ya Troy and have no problem visualizing the condition of the condo. I've been in many places just like it or worse. Some were occupied while others were vacant.

I'd wear a respirator in there....seriously. God only knows what kind of crap is in the air.

If I were in your shoes I'd rent a small roll-off and fill it up .Give the next of kin 24-48 hours notice and then start removing the contents. Remove the carpet 1 room at a time and be done with it. Sometimes it's just easier and safer than trying to sift through a disaster area for anything worth saving.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I might advise your father in law to decline his appointment as executor, and let the church/state deal with the mess. Sounds like even if you were named in the will you'd still be getting a big bucket of bubkiss.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Today rocked. Knocked out some struts on my sisters grand prix. First strut took forever. Second took about a half hour. But inbetween I had just placed my phone on the ground when I got a phone call went to reach for it and one of the old struts fell on it. I was lucky enough for it to hit right on the screen and broke the crap out of it. It won't even turn on now. Good thing i have insurance...
Heres the damage

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Man, what a fawked up week. Family disagreements over property/will issues, dirty/filthy/gross condo to deal with, stuff piled up in my house to have to deal with, had to rent a storage unit (father in law/family couldn't make up their damn minds on if it was morally right to leave the condo in such bad shape for the bank..... seriously.)

We went from "screw it, leave it as is and walk away" to "It's not right to leave it like this, it's not respectful". Spent Weds/Thurs/Fri there wearing gloves picking up grossness and going through tons of trash. I'd forgotten that 5 years ago, she had a fire in the kitchen. A clean up service totally cleaned out her place, gutted the kitchen, put in all new cabinets, appliances and while they were at it, the bathroom got a remodel and the whole place got painted/carpeted...... but you'd never have known it..... she destroyed the place in 5 years and it looked like 20 years worth of yuk.

To appease the family, I've taken on the task of selling what was valuable on Craigslist. At least the family recognized the crap (literally) we were dealing with and agreed that the valuables should be sold, we keep 50% and the rest dispersed among those in the will.

She did have some pretty nice things buried under all that crap. Spent alot of money on Bose soundwave stuff for every room, collectibles, coins, etc. A lift-assist recliner that is only a year or two old.

The church did step up and sent 8 ladies with SUV's to haul off all of the craft/needle point stuff she had piled up. I'm not kidding when I say that they completely filled all 8 SUV's - to the point that only the driver's seat was available. That was Wednesday. Thursday we'd found more and filled 3 more SUV's. They came back later Thursday to haul off all her clothing, books, kitchenware, and lots of other stuff. Said they'd do a garage sale and give the proceeds to the church....... more power to 'em.

Furniture has been the biggest pain. Charities like Habitat for Humanity and Veteran's Associations are more than willing to come get it...... as long as it's out of the house and somewhere a truck can get to it. We couldn't find any place willing to enter the house..... so most of the big stuff is staying.

We took a break from it Saturday. Father in law visited friends and I caught up on projects. Today he went back to clean out what was left...... and of course, brought it all to my place....... ugh.

Definitely alot learned from this. Wills need to be detailed, and updated often...... and we need to throw away a bunch of crap of our own.....:looney:
