Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

i came off as obiwan of 4wheeling with a post that has XXXXin ZERO to do with wheeling?.....

damn if that doesnt take some XXXXin jedi powers i dont know what does.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I'll also go on record in saying that I'm pretty damn impressed with David and his abilities in general...... be it building his XJ, driving it off road, or whatever he puts his mind to. He's a helluva kid and he's spent quite a lot of time learning about his XJ, the aftermarket and fabrication of an XJ and now he's old enough to start putting in his street driving time.

Matt's done a great job supporting David and helping him with this dadgum XJ obsession we all seem to be afflicted with....... :D

Re: The Colorado BS thread

^^^that!^^^^

Yella, you actually buy like, made out of paper, magazines.... man, you're as old school as the old obiwan dude on the cover ;)

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Good gawd........not ANOTHER sway bar debate....

Primary motivation to keeping sway bars connected and working: Insurance/liability. Don't forget, if you get into an injury accident - regardless if you're the one injured or someone else, the accident investigation generally involves a vehicle inspection to document if all items of equipment were present and working. A lifted rig already is at a disadvantage since they technically violate Traffic Code/Statutes of "Altered Suspension".....

Calling a sway bar a useless piece of the vehicle is pretty irresponsible. Telling someone they shouldn't run one is irresponsible as well. You can think you've learned how to drive and all that...... but no single driver is good enough at driving to anticipate and/or respond to the poor driving of the others around them.

Every vehicle owner/operator needs to make these decisions on their own, not at the suggestion of someone else.

As far as Mike being the "Obiwan of 4 wheeling" I know he won't claim that, but yeah, he can come off that way with posts like the one we're discussing........

You could say the same for the many modifications that we make to our offroad vehicles! Your arguement is pointless because the many modifications that we make to our rigs could be used against us! Mike and I have a mutual point of view when it comes to swaybars. I really do not care what others do to their Jeeps but I will always voice my opinion and let them decide for themselves.

"You could say the same for the many modifications that we make to our offroad vehicles!"

I kinda did.......

A lifted rig already is at a disadvantage since they technically violate Traffic Code/Statutes of "Altered Suspension".....

My arguement isn't pointless........ because I'm not arguing. :moon:

I'm just simply stating my opinion that if a person has to stand accountable for the modifications to their vehicle, I'd rather be able to say I did what I could to make it as safe as I could while conforming to all the standards I could. I don't wanna be the guy having to defend my vehicle when asked "Why did you remove and not use your vehicle's sway bar?" and answer "Hey, I learned how to drive with out 'em because a swaybar is a useless piece of shit"......

:D

Re: The Colorado BS thread

on most of the rigs the stock sway bar is useless or fighting you....

thats why they make UPGRADES

Re: The Colorado BS thread

would you use a stock sway bar on a tough trail?

how about racing through the desert?

how about when you are dickin off in the penrose commons or anywhere OFFROAD?

no. why?

cuz it doesnt allow the suspension to do what it needs to

why in the hell does anyone think street driving is harder than off road driving?

:roflmao:............. yeah, I guess my choice of "arguement" did not fit :moon:

Re: The Colorado BS thread

On road, I'll respectfully disagree until I see compelling proof that a lifted rig, when driven responsibly, handles better and/or is safer without a sway bar in the majority of circumstances.

Off road, you're 100% correct.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

look at the amount of weight? change in spring rate? raised height? different angles in the suspension, steering, sway bar itself?

bet all that R&D was so it work work on a completely altered rig

You didn't make a point here, just statements. :dunno:

A stock sway bar on a stock vehicle is designed to reduce body roll and reduce understeer to certain specifications. If you lift the vehicle or add more weight to the vehicle...... the sway bar will still reduce the body roll and understeer...... just less effectively. But I fail to see where it makes things worse, or useless.

Removing a sway bar simply increases body roll and understeer. Yes, you can learn to drive the vehicle this way........ but for those sudden evasive maneuver kinds of situations, I just don't see where having increased understeer and body roll would be a good thing.

Another thing to consider is the action of the sway bar - what it's doing under a sharp turn. When the making a hard right turn, the right side of the sway bar is being levered upwards. The sway bar's design is that it then transfers equal leverage to the left side downward...... helping keep that tire in contact with the road. Which improves steering, traction and braking performance.

I am proof

Re: The Colorado BS thread

understear? just like wheeling, hitting the brakes ad freaking out will screw you. sometimes applying the gas is whats right
"when in doubt throttle out"

get the ass end to step out and that eliminates the understear

so, instead of relyin on the damn sway bar to help save my ass, ive learned to calm the XXXX down in an emergency situation and not just hop to slamming the brakes and swerving....(do that on a bike and i guarantee you die in the first 6 months) apply it to any vehicle, specifically a lifted jeep, and you tend not to lose your ass in panic

The only thing you're proof of is that the air is indeed thinner above 6'...... :D

Don't get emo on me..... J/K. :laugh3:
