Yella, you actually buy like, made out of paper, magazines.... man, you're as old school as the old obiwan dude on the cover![]()
I'll also go on record in saying that I'm pretty damn impressed with David and his abilities in general...... be it building his XJ, driving it off road, or whatever he puts his mind to. He's a helluva kid and he's spent quite a lot of time learning about his XJ, the aftermarket and fabrication of an XJ and now he's old enough to start putting in his street driving time.
Matt's done a great job supporting David and helping him with this dadgum XJ obsession we all seem to be afflicted with.......![]()
Good gawd........not ANOTHER sway bar debate....
Primary motivation to keeping sway bars connected and working: Insurance/liability. Don't forget, if you get into an injury accident - regardless if you're the one injured or someone else, the accident investigation generally involves a vehicle inspection to document if all items of equipment were present and working. A lifted rig already is at a disadvantage since they technically violate Traffic Code/Statutes of "Altered Suspension".....
Calling a sway bar a useless piece of the vehicle is pretty irresponsible. Telling someone they shouldn't run one is irresponsible as well. You can think you've learned how to drive and all that...... but no single driver is good enough at driving to anticipate and/or respond to the poor driving of the others around them.
Every vehicle owner/operator needs to make these decisions on their own, not at the suggestion of someone else.
As far as Mike being the "Obiwan of 4 wheeling" I know he won't claim that, but yeah, he can come off that way with posts like the one we're discussing........
A lifted rig already is at a disadvantage since they technically violate Traffic Code/Statutes of "Altered Suspension".....
"You could say the same for the many modifications that we make to our offroad vehicles!"
I kinda did.......
My arguement isn't pointless........ because I'm not arguing. :moon:
I'm just simply stating my opinion that if a person has to stand accountable for the modifications to their vehicle, I'd rather be able to say I did what I could to make it as safe as I could while conforming to all the standards I could. I don't wanna be the guy having to defend my vehicle when asked "Why did you remove and not use your vehicle's sway bar?" and answer "Hey, I learned how to drive with out 'em because a swaybar is a useless piece of shit"......

on most of the rigs the stock sway bar is useless or fighting you....
look at the amount of weight? change in spring rate? raised height? different angles in the suspension, steering, sway bar itself?
bet all that R&D was so it work work on a completely altered rig![]()
On road, I'll respectfully disagree until I see compelling proof that a lifted rig, when driven responsibly, handles better and/or is safer without a sway bar in the majority of circumstances.
I am proof
