Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Some kid wanted tip to 'look over what he bought'. It's a good laugh. Doesn't run and chopped.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Has anyone done much running with the tailgate open?
I need to transport soem 6 foot trees and thinking about securing the gate open with bungies or something. Going to be a long trip up to Longmont most likely. I don't want it to slam closed and cut off the tops, might try to stick a 2x4 in there to keep it open, bungie or strap to keep it closed?

If I have the windows open I probably won't kill myself with exhaust eh?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

you should be ok. put something behind the gate and then close it then strap it down. then put a red flag of some sort if you stick out over 2'

Re: The Colorado BS thread

^hey that's a good idea. I have a class 3 hitch. I was thinking about buying a trailer for a while...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I would say rent a trailer. Shouldn't be much...

Or borrow a truck.

Wedging a 2x4 is a bad idea. Too tight, you may be bending/tweaking the roof at the hinges or the hatch itself and then it won't close properly. You could over-extend the hatch struts as well. Too loose and that 2x4 becomes a road hazzard when it falls out after hitting a bump.

Those trees would have to be saplings....... the root ball on anything larger would be pretty tough to load/unload into the back of an XJ. Plus, the branches could do damage to your headliner unless the tree gets wrapped.

The only other way to secure the hatch would be to use a 2x4 that is just short enough that it doesn't wedge the hatch open, and then use a ratcheting strap between the hatch and bumper to somehow tighten the hatch down onto the 2x4..... Still, not optimal.

But if you've got a hitch on your XJ....... rent a trailer. Otherwise borrow a truck.
