Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

From personal experience...... Acupuncture simply works. Absent a physical injury like a ruptured disk that it cant cure, it's the best, pain relief around.

A while back I had tweaked my neck right at the base of my skull. Terrible pain and very limited movement. Spent 4 weeks trying chiropractic and all that did was make it so much worse.

My Dr. suggested physical therapy and I went to Cactus Spine and Sport. After 2 sessions of traction and phys. therapy thet suggested "Needling". It's a form of acupuncture that targets DEEP muscle tension and joint pain. Indeed, I was fearful of the 3" needles but I was out of options and in too much pain NOT to try it.

Dude, I got INSTANT relief. I could touch my chin to each shoulder right after. Had two more sessions a couple days apart and I was cured. The deep muscles were just too tight and angry to allow my spine to reset..... Needling calmed the muscles and things moved into place without yanks, twists or force.

I'm a believer.

So, even if you have a disk injury, I highly recommend the needles to at least give you some muscle tension relief.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I honestly didn't think my PC doc was going to give me any drugs at all to make things easier until I got into the Orthopedic Surgeon. I dealt with the pain for 2 days before calling him at 8:30 in the morning. I didn't get the script until about 4:00.

I have researched my options. Even if it is a herniated disc, they would have likely tried PT, Chiro, and shots before any surgery. Whatta ya mean Hypoid?

Weeeeeeeeed!!

Re: The Colorado BS thread

The only thing that helped with the pain in my 4 years of back injury recovery was Ibuprofen/anti-inflammatory drugs. Just don't take more than 2400mg/day.

Naproxen is my day to day friend. Back injuries suck and I was lucky enough that a few months of PT got me back in order. I am way more careful now when it comes to doing anything that'll hurt it and stop as soon as I even start to get sore.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Stocker...I'm not sure how I feel about the legalization of marijuana or it's use medicinally and I really don't want this to go down that road but I did talk to several people about it and the general consensus was that it probably wouldn't help my particular situation with regard to long term solutions and pain management.

Matt...I'm bald so I don't think haircuts are gonna work for me either.

Jefferson...when I said Tylenol yesterday, I meant to type Ibuprofen. It doesn't seem to do a whole lot though.

I guess the Gabapentin he has me on now is supposed to block the receptors and decrease pain that way. He said it would take several days in order for the levels to build up high enough so they would work. Now this morning I'm able to drink coffee/water without flinching when I bend my back slightly. But things can swing either way it seems within a couple hours. Not sure why that is. Really hoping the Ortho calls today. If not I may call him. THanks for the ideas/suggestion everyone.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Hey Dutch!

Trust me on this one. by the time your back starts to hurt, it is already too late. You know how it is I know this... I am afraid you will need to learn how to "ration" how much you do at a time. If you do not fully heal, you will never heal.

I will say this about NSAIDs. Be very wary of them. Taken long enough, they create ulcers. Ask me how I know. Was on Indomethacin at the end after exhausting all of the other families of NSAIDs.

Nothing quite like puking blood every 20 minutes to ruin your afternoon...

I was on increasing dose/strength NSAIDs for well over 10 years until the day. Now, can't take any of them at all.

The damage accumulates and is permanent. I was warned at the outset but took my chances.

Don't make the same mistake I did. It was all so as to be able to continue doing whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Ruining my health in the process.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Thanks Steamer. I don't like taking pills at all so I am conscious of how many are going in and had heard about the ulcer issues.

I think this is a combination of age (now 40) and all the years spent cycling. I think if I had done "normal" cycling this might not have happened. But the last 6 years have been focused on endurance events so training rides in the 5-10 hour range were very common all summer long and when doing an event I would routinely ride closer to 20 hours at a time. In the last event I did this past August I rode just under 89 hours straight (no sleep and only stopping to eat, filter water, or take off/put on layers). That isn't normal.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Finally got around to building the firebox for the smoker. All .25" plate stock at roughly 25" x 30". This bitch is HEAVY. Weighs about 200lbs so far. Trying to muscle this thing around on the table is a full body workout. lol

First charcoal rack rail.

Getting 90* degree angles.

Tacked in place. I was only off by 1/16th square. Not back for doing it without a corner jig.

Fully welded

Fire box will be insulated with 1" mineral wool so I used some 1"x.5" flat bar to create the frame. Still need to cut out 2 drafts at the bottom to provide air. Kind of at a standstill until I get a plasma cutter. The old angle grinder would literally die cutting .25" plate. lol

More to come!

Like a dummy I tried picking up a light box yesterday evening and really did something bad to the same disc and had that pinched nerve feeling really steady. After things calmed down a bit, I went to rub my neck and as I rubbed this one spot, it hit the nerve and freaked me out that I could push on the disc enough to hit the nerve. Ended up going to the ER. They pumped me full of Valium and Morphine and I hung out there for a while. They gave me more Valium and Percoet and sent me home. The doctors thought was that he would give me enough of the drugs to get me over the hump until these other drugs that my PC doctor gave can build up to a therapeutic level to block the pain receptors and make it until the surgeon can see me. Also gave me a soft collar to wear which which seemed to help relax some of the muscles in my neck. On Monday I'll call the surgeon and tell him I had to go to the ER and see if he can see me earlier than the 21st. I just woke up. Still rocked from all the drugs they gave me last night.

Bring that thing up here. It is slow going, but my little Hobart can cut 1/4".

Dang, Flores! I'll take that over eating the windshield. Seriously though, sorry I can't do anything for your situation.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Almost pulled a Zith with my sisters rig. Finally found the cause of DW on her rig. Lower track bar mount was trying to rip off the axle.

Thanks Mike. Once again Troy let me use his Plasma. I'm a such a mooch. lol

Definitely need to get my own sooner than later.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Spent the whole day getting this smoker about 90% done (structurally). Had a change of plans with the chamber. Did the math and it was going to cost another $300.00 for the metal to finish the 100 gallon, so I made an executive decision and used the 100lb propane tank for the main chamber. It's a little smaller, but whatever.

Mating the firebox and the chamber together.

Did I mention this sumbitch is HEAVY?! Thank God I had my transmission jack to help lift it.

Built the firebox door and started insulating the inner membrane with Mineral Wool.

Got one side of the outer membrane on before I ran out of cutoff wheels. I NEED A PLASMA!

And finally rigged up some barrel hinges and did the chamber door.

Back at it again next weekend.

This video is why I try to avoid the general public. I don't know how this guy kept his cool. My wife would have knocked this whale out.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Indeed, you'd like to think that when someone gets in your face like that a quick open-palm smack across their face to shut them up would be legal........ but unfortunately it's not.

Notice that beeeesh drives a Prius.....
