Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

LOL! I gotta admit....... this video featuring a public urination prank is pretty damn funny. I'm pretty embarrassed for some of the cops for their reactions. Some of that possibly could have been considered Disturbing the Peace/Disorderly Conduct - depends on the elements of the City's code/law, but for the most part...... totally harmless and pretty funny.

Watch and discuss......

BTW........ yet ANOTHER example as to why I don't work a day shift assignment........

They will be tagged, most likely, for a "disturbing the peace" charge which some Cops in Ohio like to use as a catch all. I lived in Elyria, Ohio (west of Cleveland) for 8 years and saw it more than I care to remember.

The Cops will make the case that even though no specific law was broken, the overall effect of the prank was disruptive resulting in Officers being dispatched that could have otherwise been doing something actually useful.

I suspect that this happened over the course of a day as you can see the temperment change in the Police as the video progresses. At first, they are just as amused as anyone else until the prank overstays it's welcome. Then it hits the fan. The guy hauled off will be fined...

The guys refusing to shut down the cameras do not have the protection they think they have unless they work for a News Outlet. You Tube is not a News Outlet...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

People are jerks, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

Troy, couldn't the cop asking them to put down the camera charge them for interfering with a police investigation? Or not following a police order? Heck, I think he showed great restraint, I would have started tasing (and that is the reason I couldn't be a cop).

As of late.......... this is completely incorrect. Local and Federal courts have been getting challenged about 1st and 4th Amendment rights regarding filming/recording police activity in public places and all of the challenges brought up in the past 2 years have been upheld - that the public does indeed have the right to film law enforcement in the course of their actions on duty and they do not have the right to force the public to stop recording, nor do they have the right to seize cameras/footage unless specifically related to evidentiary value in a criminal case. Most (if not all now) of the City and State laws that had prohibited the public from filming/recording law enforcement have been found to be unconstitutional.

But I'd agree that the continuation of the prank which causes multiple calls for police response may make a solid case to support physically removing the prank participants and charging them with a public order crime (as well as seizing their cameras/footage as evidence to show repeated calls/response)...... if the participants refuse to voluntarilly stop and leave. The big issue shown in this particular prank video is that none of the cops that challenged the pranksters could articulate this to them when challenged. They gotta be able to tell them what the violation is before putting hands on 'em, grabbing cameras, or throwing cuffs on 'em. "You haven't committed any crime, but you're being an idiot." doesn't cut it.

Whatsup with everyone getting on at 11:30? me and 2 users to 14 people right at 1130!

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Good to know the laws have been changed and I quite agree that at least one of the Cops in question should have been able to state why the prank was being shut down. Some places though, do not want anything to go on record that may be incorrect as it can blow up in Court...

But, it is yet another example of the Young Minds In Action that they could not see the problem they caused by over staying thier welcome.

The young minds could see the problem, just didn't give a s--t, should have hauled them in , then let them go and walk back. or maybe some mellon thumping just to get thier attention

Re: The Colorado BS thread

you guys know my 2 cents -- harmless prank (fairly funny), no laws broken, and the public has an absolute right to monitor their public servants to ensure that they remember that their role, first and foremost, is to defend and protect the constitution and the inalienable rights of citizens guaranteed thereunder. I thought most of the cops reacted exactly as they should have, with some humor and a touch of embarrassment -- that's why it was a funny prank. I gotta say though, the dude in drag was so heinous, and his costume so bad, that its hard to believe that anybody didn't see right through it and skip the call to the PD. :puke:

I have to think these guys wanted to get hauled in, their attitude towards the end, knowing that this particular cop was not amused, says they were just trying to add that cherry on top to their little youtube...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Every time I think Jeep parts are expensive and hard to find, I need to think back to days like today. Like the fact that a brand new replacement ignition coil for my BMW motorcycle runs $400 and there are only 5 in the entire country. Thank goodness for fleabay.
