I went ahead and made reservations for it, as it is getting late to expect availability.

The dates: Sunday evening, 7/24/16 through Saturday night, 7/30/16.

The campground: http://koa.com/campgrounds/ouray/

The tent sites: 47 A,B,C,D, 48, 49, 50.

The cost: $36.72 per night for two people, extra people $5/night. This is a per tent site charge, they can be shared with two tents per site, so the cost can be split.

Pets: No more than 2 per site, must be behaved, and non-aggressive.

We can have two tents per site. They do request that if you have more than one vehicle that it be parked in the overflow area.

If you want an RV site or a cabin, there is availability, but you need to make reservations now. It can be done online or you can call:

Debra: 970-216-4009 Mention that you are with NAXJA, we aren't getting any discounts, but she can locate you near the group site.

You will pay the hosts. Currently, the deposits for the sites are on my credit card.

We need to get the thread up in the event area.

Ridgeway state park is $26 per night plus a $7 day entrance fee or a $70 annual pass. And if reserved online a $10 transaction fee. Looking around the area, it seems to be the going rate.

Me, I'd rather camp at the BLM campground just below Cinnamon Pass, but that always gets voted down.

I'm not totally ruling it out but I don't know if I'm going now. An extra $100/week for me and the wife (added to the cost of the extra fuel to get there and back) over what we normally pay for camping is a little hard to swallow.

Don't get me wrong, I know there are not many choices for camping down there that will suit a group's needs, and I do appreciate your efforts in securing the site, but I just don't know if I can, or want to, do it money-wise. I'd rather spend the extra coin going to Moab.

Wow, 45 and change a night is pretty rough for my 4 people! I really wanna go but idk if we can afford that! Like said can go to Moab for around the same $$. Is the bLM cheaper Fred? Or is it just plain to late to change or what?

Why does that get voted down? No facilities I'm guessing?

Is this the cost for an RV site, a tent site, or for a group site?

Tom, I am guessing it is a block of sites Fred reserved for the week essentially creating a group site. So the cost is for you to plop your tent on it.

I am going to guess based on the park map that this is the area we are looking at.

There can be two tents per site which splits the cost in half. Say there is there is two families on one site, one family has 4 people the other 2. It would cost the family with 4 $29/night, the family with two $19/night. We only have 7 tent sites, I'm hoping there are two tents on each site. At Arrowhead, it would have been $40/night plus tax for the foursome, and $20/night for the twosome.

It is individual tent sites grouped together. There are no group sites at that campground.

As I said, I'd prefer the BLM campground, however they don't take reservations. If my jeep is done by then(waiting, waiting for valve spring retainers, :) I'd gladly tow a community trailer with kitchen, shower and bathroom set up. :)

We'll be there in an RV site.

Just need to figure out if we're doing Moab before or after.

Oh ok that makes more sense if we can share a site between two families!

Jeremy and I are looking forward to this trip!

Event forum is up!

What's the travel like getting to the campground. If I was pulling a Jeep with an RV, how much of a pain would it be to either come down from Denver or 70 to 24 to 50 to the campground? Are there big mountain passes like I70 west of Denver?

With an RV I would take 70 to Grand Junction and 50 south to 550 into Ouray. If you you go down 24 and then across 50; parts of 24 are narrow and winding and 50 goes over Monarch Pass. But it depends on how comfortable you are with narrow roads.

If you are not comfortable with narrow twisty roads with 500 ft drop-offs and no guard rails, don't come from Durango heading North.

Yep. 70 to Grand Junction, then south from their is the easiest as far as Mt. passes go.

Set my reservation for the camper for the days we will be there. Just found out there might be a schedule conflict with the camper availability so hoping it pans out.

We drove 24 to Colorado Springs in 2009 for the XRRA finals, didn't seem like a bad drive, just no fuel stops for miles...but we didn't go further west into the mountains.

If we get that close to Moab and don't go, my wife will lose her mind.

Thanks for the info, we'll discuss as we put this years travel plans together.

Btw. Posted in event forum about trails. I know last time there was discussion of a trip for billings or 21rd. I'd like to get some idea of what folks run out there to see how far done the jeep needs to be.
