code scanner?

anybody buy a code scanner and know what i should be looking for? obliviously they should read the codes but do i want a cheap one thats not expandable or is there a reason to buy the expandable ones? i have a 99 xj and several other newer cars that would accept the obd2..... any ideas on this?

x2.. although, my durango has a built in code reader. turn the key three times and it shows the numarical code in the mileage field. i still gotta get online to find out what the code is for.. so you might aswell take a trip to your local parts store..

I use it to read my speedo in my WJ, and it has a correction adjustment by % so I can get an accurate speedo on the 32's

i hate drivin to the parts store and havin to borrow there's all the time and was thinkin havin the cheap one around the house and then if gotta have the 200 dollar one go to parts store? sound reasonable?
