Class C motorhome towing with ford V10???

So im considering purchasing a 31' Class C motorhome. Its a Ford E450 chassis with the 6.8L V10 gas engine. It has a 5000lbs towing capacity.
Im going to tow the XJ behind it & im curious if anyone out there is towing with this engine. I would like steer towards a diesel but its not an option in the models im looking at...... any advice would be appriciated.
 
They are pretty reliable, We service motorhomes and don't see to many issues with the v-10. Since 99, that is all that came in class A's with the Ford chassis, and only god knows how heavy they are with boats etc.. behind.
 
Are you planing on flat towing or using a trailor

Probably a little over the 5000lbs mark. Not a big deal in my book. I think motorhomes are greatly under rated on tow capacity. theres no reason that thing shouldn't be able to safely tow 10000lbs. But I guess thats not for me to say.
 
The later the year the better. We don't see any issues at all with 04,05,06,07. Before that really the only issue is they will launch a plug/coil, if that happens you install a insert, new plug/coil and $400.00 later your on the road. The good news is it wont leave you stranded, justs makes a hell of a noise.

You know...from a guy with Ford in his name this almost makes sense.

Me? I would rather buy something that I didn't have to worry about the plugs coming out of the motor.

Maybe Im just weird though and like stuff that holds together better then your average Lego car.
 
I would actually prefer a diesel but it seems like diesel class C's are way more expensive and rare than the gas powered v10's. The ford e450 chassis seems like the most common used. The chevy chassis looks good with their diesel engine but those motorhomes are $$$ more.
 
Why/how do the plugs blow out anyway?
Do the threads strip out of the head or what? Im not sure I understand how/why that can happen.

I have a 97 23' Class C on an E350 chassis with the V10.
I've flat towed to Calico, JV (via Yucca Valley) and Truckhaven.
No problems towing at all.
With the 31 footer though you may be pusshing the GVWR just with the cabin. Do you have the weight sticker info for the RV that you are interested in?

you know, I'm not so sure about Diesel anymore.
This weekend Gas was under $3 in Attica, Diesel was $3.69.

Ford decided I am sure threw some rocket scientist that they could eliminate a second machining process when cutting the plug threads, to do this they got rid of two threads, I think It was 7 to 5 but not sure. anyway, what will happen is over time plugs start to get slightly loose due to the aluminum head, which is not at all abnormal, but with the lack of threads, pow! out comes the plug! It usually only happenes to the rear plug that gets the hottest. I will say that as you guys all know, every vehicle has its issues, Look at Toyota, We own a Toyota store and I will tell you, they have some pretty crazy stuff happen, its just not in the news.

I haven't had to replace anything but a tensioner pulley and a steering gear.

Both of them were weird factory screw ups that came that way from the facotry.
