Clarion Headunit Question

I worry when rattles stop

I've done a search and only found 1 opinion on Clarion headunits and I was just curious if anyone else had an opinion. I had placed an order w/ Onlinecarstereo.com to try and sneak one of the last Alpine CDA-9833s before they disappeared for good but it isn't looking like I am going to get it (customer service is useless and can't tell me when or if I'll ever get my order). So I am trying to find a different headunit that I will actually be able to get my hands on. Here is what I want: minimal silver on the faceplate (my dash is black and silver will stick out like a sore thumb), good quality, skip protection if possible, simple display (graphics and colorful displays really just annoy me), and the ability to play MP3s. I have 4 Polk speaksers in the stock locations right now but have plans to add a sound bar and some component speakers in various locations along with an amp (when more funds are available). So here is where the Clarion question comes in, I have found the DXZ755MC and it seems to fit most of my wants but I have never had any dealings with Clarion and I'm hoping some of you have.

Sorry for the long post, but please, any comments are welcome or if you have reccomendations that is fine too. Thanks.

Most of the people that I know have had great results with clarion stuff, especially their head units. I would say they dont sound as good as a alpine, but in my opinion nothing does. I dont use alpine cause they seem to be fussy about some CDs that I have. I would say they make a product that is as good as a kenwood or eclipse.

Pioneer because it has skip protection and the quailty is awsome and @ wal-mart they are reasonably priced the cheaper one(like mine) doesnt have a fancy display and is dark grey, all pioneers can play mp3s to.

Just my $0.02

The only experiance that I have had with a Clarion head unit was about eight years ago. I had one of the less expensive models (already installed in a used car that I bought). The thing was a POS. Needed a screwdriver go get CDs out of it after a while! Funny to think about that now. I am sure that they have improved their products since then, and maybe I just got a bad unit at the time.

Just sharring my experiance.

I used to say that about Pioneer too since I used to sell them a while back and we rarely had warranty returns on them and my friends had good luck with them but their newer ones are not nearly as good as their older stuff. I've had two newer Pioneers and the first one broke under warranty and they gave me a new one, a newer model and I have a different problem with this one that showed up right after the waranty was up. Lucky its just a problem with the display and it still works fine, i just cant read the display. My remote crapped out on me the other day, but it might just need new batteries. I've talked with others about this and I'm definitely not alone, its becoming pretty common for them to malfunction + or - a year.

I'm going to go back to Alpine since I've never had a problem with them. I would also recommend Kenwood, Eclipse, the higher end Clarions, and the higher end Panasonics.
