I thought we had a thread for this but a search netted me what a search usually does here.

Anyway, as our XJ's get older its getting harder to find XJ's being used for public service. I see plenty of Commanders being used by PD's and FD's.

I spotted this Sheriffs Department XJ at a high school football game last Friday night at Tunstal High School in Pittsylvania Co VA. Crappy cell phone pic in poor lighting conditions.

Found this XJ a couple of years ago while on vacation in South Dakota. It was a State Trooper/Forest Ranger's. I was on my back under the front end of the Jeep when the officer came around the corner. He was almost ready to pull on me since he had no clue what I was doing. After I told him that I'm a Jeep guy and such, we talked for awhile, really nice guy. He was telling me about how other departments had Explorers and how crappy they were, always breaking down and such. He loved the XJ, telling me how he personally requested to keep this jeep. He said he even wanted to keep it after the state makes him get rid of it. It was loaded with all the special equipment goodies.

My son hopes to buy (today) an x sanitary district XJ. 2 Dr,5 spd.
Local govt auction .

Firestone, CO PD has one. Its the Code Enforcement vehicle, I'll try to snag a pic.

Ah I wish I took a picture of the Port Authority XJ back when I worked at JFK airport. It was white with a yellow border going front to back with the emblem on the doors and had huge yellow flashers on the top.

we have a bunch of them here in escondido. not sure if they're city, cal trans, state, etc. all white with exempt plates and an amber light bar on top. there's a lot with about 3-4 of them just sitting, and every so often i see one driving around.

I saw a white XJ, think it was a late model but not sure, on 84/91/5/15/whatever going across the charter oak bridge in the newington/hartford area a few months ago with a light bar on top and POLICE on the side. Looked pretty cool.

Cool pic Mac! The only thing that would make that pic cooler is if he were behind your XJ and had his lit up!

The night i took the pic of the XJ in VA I was in my XK(Commander) or i would have had that sheriff act like he was pulling me over just for a photo op. I talked with the sheriff that was driving that XJ and he was hoping to keep his in service until he retires and then he was going to buy it! He loved his XJ.

Well I was lucky to be able to get that pic because I was a little over whelmed that he let me take the pic. It was getting dark and I actually took that pic with my 1.3 megapixel digital camera that I had at the time. He was working an accident and had pulled off into that lot to write his report. Even tho we are now co-workers (he's a Captain these days), I was just a young 20's snot nosed kid that liked the XJ in a police wrapper.

For the record he's a Jeep enthusiast and calls me from time to time to ask me questions about Jeeps.
