You know, it's funny...from a performance perspective I really don't find it does much wrt system speed. Doesn't surprise me in the least. Up until probably about 1990 I would imagine most companies would have created their own fonts to suit their purposes; either that or outsourced the graphical design. I think getting fonts available like we have nowadays is a very new concept indeed. Also my father-in-law is a Jeep engineer and he thought that he recalled most of the Jeep fonts being done in house.
