Anyone know what the font is? Im talking about the nameplates on the side that say "Cherokee"

Im looking to make decals to replace the nameplates.

97+?

The closest font I have on my laptop is "HandelGotDLig".

Code:
HandelGotDLig

	PostScript name	HandelGotD-Ligh
	Full name	HandelGotDLig
	Family	HandelGotDLig
	Style	Regular
	Kind	TrueType
Language	English, French, German, Spanish, etc.
	Version	Version 001.005
	Location	/Users/chris/Library/Fonts/HANDGOTL.TTF
	Unique name	URW:HandelGotD-Ligh:1994
Copyright	URW Software, Copyright 1994 by URW
	Enabled	Yes
	Duplicate	No

Unfortunately it is not bold or extended - which would make it a touch closer. Also, I don't have the XJ at the office today to compare directly.

I don't know where I got this font. I do know that it must be on the web somewhere as I have never paid for fonts.

I'll check my machine at home to see if I have a better match. I have something like 300 more fonts installed on the G5.

For the record, the intrument cluster markings appear to be:

Code:
Arial Rounded MT Bold

	PostScript name	ArialRoundedMTBold
Full name	Arial Rounded MT Bold
	Family	Arial Rounded MT Bold
	Style	Bold
	Kind	TrueType
	Language	English, French, German, etc.
	Version	Version 1.00
	Location	/Library/Fonts/Arial Rounded Bold

Copyright	Copyright © 1993 , Monotype Typography ltd.
Trademark	Arial ® Trademark of Monotype Typography ltd registered in the US Pat & TM.and elsewhere.
	Enabled	Yes
	Duplicate	Yes

I think this font came with Mac OS X.

The factory switchgear and stereo controls appear to be Eurostile:

Code:
Eurostile Bold

	PostScript name	EurostileBold
	Full name	Eurostile Bold
	Family	Eurostile
	Style	Bold
	Kind	TrueType
	Language	English, French, German, etc.
	Version	Version 1.51
	Location	/Users/chris/Library/Fonts/Eurostile
	Unique name	Eurostile Bold

Trademark	Eurostile is a licensed trademark of Fonderia Caratteri Svizzera Walter Fruttiger A.G.
	Enabled	Yes
	Duplicate	No

I am certain this font is freely available on the web.

These fonts have a couple of inconsistencies compared to the real thing (numerals in particular) but they are close enough for the casual eye. I'm using them for building the touch screen interface that is going in the dash of the XJ.

Yes, I am a big geek. :D

You can get Cherokee decals that look stock from ebay. Just search "Cherokee stickers" or "Cherokee decals" Anything related to jeep decals and you'll find it.

No it isn't... we have a new area for hard core modified tech. You've been gone for awhile, no?

It is a Jeep-designed font. Actually, they may not have come up with it (they outsourced the work), but it is their font.

Interesting. How do you know this as a certainty?

Just curious. :)

WTF is modigied? At least learn english if you're going to be an ass. Root Moose has it pretty close, but ebay is probably the best bet, it just might take a little time to find one but they are pretty cheap.

I would recommend trimming the fat on fonts - get a leaner meaner system. Do you have Panther? If so use their Font Utility to turn off fonts you don't use...VERY nifty tool if you haven't messed with it yet.

'Scuse me...in Mac Geek mode right now - messing around with Holly's new iPod :)

You know, it's funny...from a performance perspective I really don't find it does much wrt system speed. At least I've never noticed a problem.

What I do find annoying is hunting and pecking through the fonts when I am trying to do some of the simpler things like simple Word/Excel docs. The font selection drop down is long/annoying to deal with.

Just haven't gotten around to cleaning it up. Not even sure where half of the fonts came from.

Yep, depending on what he has in mind just buying something might be good enough.

Otherwise, starting with that font I mentioned and then transforming it into a bit map and then mucking about with it (line weight, transform stretch, extrude, bevel, etc.) would be good enough.

I'm kinda glad the question was asked; I think I'll use it to make a background for the grub boot loader background screen for the in-vehicle commuter project.

I'm not 100% sure, but my wife is a graphic designer and she searched her company's font archives with no luck (no small task--her company has tons of fonts due to international work). Also my father-in-law is a Jeep engineer and he thought that he recalled most of the Jeep fonts being done in house.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Up until probably about 1990 I would imagine most companies would have created their own fonts to suit their purposes; either that or outsourced the graphical design. I think getting fonts available like we have nowadays is a very new concept indeed. So there...
